Could the Habs gain ground on the Bruins this month?

Habs are currently ten points behind Boston. There are 8 games left this month, 6 of which are on the road but 5 out of 8 are also very easy.

15 - Nashville
17 - at Ottawa (Watch for the possible new coach surge here, though)
20 - at Atlanta
27 - at Tampa Bay
29 - at Florida

The other three games left this month that I haven't put in the easy column are on the 13th in Boston, on the 21st in New Jersey, and on the 31st against Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the Bruins' 8 games are as follows.

13 - Habs
15 - at Islanders
17 - at Washington
19 - St-Louis
21 - at Toronto
27 - Washington
29 - New Jersey
31 - Rangers

We'll give them easy ones VS Islanders, St-Louis and Toronto. That leaves them 5 challenging games.

I'm thinking that IF they win Tuesday, the Habs will be within 4-6 points of the Bruins by the end of the month.

I wouldn't take any games for granted. If the players go into those games thinking they are easy, they will lose.

Let the chips fall where they may, I'm more concerned about the habs getting into the playoffs playing their best hockey.

The one thing that concerns me about a 4th or 5th place finish is that I believe it will mean a date with the devils, which never seems to end well.

Last year I cared about finishing first -- now I realise how stupid it is. Let us finish 8th, the regular season means nothing as long as we play well when it matters (you know when )

Florida is never easy on us. And the Panthers are playing exceptional right now, heck we needed 6 goals to beat them last time. As mentioned by an other poster, no game is easy, we can't let up.

Strangely enough it's those "easy" games that scare me the most.

Last year was fun because we just enjoyed the ride after the team had surpassed expectations quite early. We just wanted to see how far the ride could go.

This year feels more business-like. The habs are expected to have a deep playoff run (whether these are fair expectations or not is another argument). So you're right, it doesn't really matter where the team finishes because they will be judged in the post season.

In essence, I agree.

But come playoff time I'd rather face a team like Buffalo or Florida (despite our all-time record against them) than New Jersey.

There are no 'easy' games in the nhl. Especially when it comes to the habs and teams they should beat.

Besides that, anyone else looking forward to actually playing another team than the bruind in the first round? I know I am.

Yeah im sure they'll take that one.

How awesome would it be though if we met in conf. finals and eliminated them once again.

Theres your first mistake. Never EVER say a game is easy. That is where you lose.

Oh but we can't handle their physical play?

Last time I checked we beat them last spring, where they played physical?

I'd rather the team not work their ass off to try to catch Boston and leave some in the tank to ensure that they are 100% for the post-season. We worked our ***** off last year to catch the Conference win (which we got because Pittsburgh tanked their last game, I should add) and ended up watching several players get hurt after a very healthy season. I'd rather get a very good record and then ride it to the post-season.

Do you think the Bruins will purposely lose to have us in their first round? Ie, if we finish 6th, they'll make sure to finish 3rd.

hehehe

There is no easy game in the National Hockey League.

I'll take the stanley cup, you can have the Eastern title.

And can people stop making threads with 'boston' in the title, it gives them chubbies everytime.

Well, we can gain 2 points.

Tuesday.

I would love to finish 1st though. Because that would mean we had one really, REALLY good second half and that we are ready for the playoffs.

But now the only thing that's important for me is that we win games regularily against teams that will be in the playoffs, and that we stay as healthy as possible.
