No thanks. Let him and his 7.7M cap hit rot in Tampa.

I'll believe it when I see it.

If Vinny wasn't saddled by his massive 11-year contract I'd jump on it. Even then, I might still do it; the good part of said ridiculous 11-year contract is that you're getting a 9-million player for a 7.7 million cap hit, at least so long as he is worth 9 million. I'm a big fan of Higgins and Pleky but we have the depth to cover Higgins' loss on the wings and as good as Pleks is Vinny is a massive upgrade.

Too bad it's such a complete and utter pipe dream.

Serious stuff!
Maybe they'd ask for Latendresse, D'agostini? Kostitsyn(x2)? I doubt the trade happens or even true.

He also said Vinny doesn't want to play here. He likes the city of Tampa and playing in a non pressure situation like Montreal would be. Also said his heafty contract could cripple a team if the cap goes down.

Also those 2 roster players only make 3mil between them. How could the Habs afford 7.7 mil or whatever his cap hit is?

Not all of them, probably one more I said. One of the possible 4.

Guys Darren just said that there's a player in our team that was captain somewhere in BC...can anyone confirm this?

I'm probably missing someone crucial in this line-up, but yeah, this won't happen.
Done even if i'm very paranoid about monstrous long term contracts.

That said we would most likely have to switch Subban for McDo and add another prospect for Tampa to even consider it.

Was Vinny born in the USA or Tampa Bay spacifically???

SERIOUSLY, why would Vinny hate playing in Montreal? Honestly, is there ANY loyalty left from Canadian born players to play on Canadian NHL teams? I am from the US and I am sick of hearing that players, especially from Canada, do not want to play for canadian teams.

Maybe in 5 or 6 years, Calgary and Edmonton will be out of the NHL like Winnipeg and Quebec are now. SWEET! Bettman would have a huge h_rd on then.

The remainder of his 2008-09 salary would be on Montreal's books for this year. So if Higgins and Plekanec go the other way, and you knock off the salary saved from Dandenault, Tanguay (and Higgins) from being on long-term IR, they might be able to squeeze it in.

Then again, we're not capologists...

If Bobby can fleece those two lunatics the way Doug Wilson did Mike O'Connell for Thornton... then go for it.

Otherwise don't bother.

the contract definitely scares me, however, a French Canadian superstar? La Belle Province would eat it up!

Montreal does NOT need Vinny at all. He does not have any canadian loyalty anyway. Screw him. And screw his ridiculous contract.

Montreal has some AWESOME prospects. Subban, Fischer and McDonagh will be NHL top pairing D-men. Why even think of dumping them for Mr. USA.

He wouldn't hate playing in Montreal, but his entire family lives in Tampa now and he's comfortable there. That's why he signed such a long-term deal.

7.7M cap hit is nothing for a player like Lecavalier. It's like Kovalev + Laraque + Begin.

He's a perfect fit for this team. Time to get rid of all the quantity and get some quality.

I'll take Vinny anyday, but I wouldn't trade anything for him. Teams with superstars that were forced to deplete their roster of secondary players or too much depth suck or are in serious trouble (see Lecavalier, Crosby, Malkin, Spezza, Heatley, Alfredsson, etc...). Some offers I've heard on the radio or boards to get Vinny are ridiculous. No to becoming Tampa Bay of the North.

I have heard from more than one pundit that he has said he would hate playing in Montreal, duo mostly to the media and fan pressure on the team. Someone on TSN said he'd prefer to fly UNDER the radar.

That's one ****ed up lineup Imagine Vinny at the point with Markov With that trade we would solve 2 problems: big center and PP point shot. Won't happen anyway.

So, Vinny and his huge contract is worth 3 times what Jagr was worth? Higgins, Plecs, Mcdonaugh for vincent and a party favour.

If Vancouver was willing to pay $10 million a season to Sundin and Crosby is worth (according to the deal he signed) $8.7 million a season, Vinny at $7.7 million is fair to me.

He's 28-29 now, and another 10 years would be fine by me. And he's certainly not Rick DiPietro!
