Conboy

Just looking up info on him to see if he has a chance with Habs in the future. Looks like he may be a wild man in Chris Nilan style.

A long shot to become a fourth liner but if he makes it then he seems to be the player who will protect his team mates.

Good stuff.
Quote:
Freshman Andrew Conboy isn’t afraid of anything on the ice.
Whether it’s sacrificing his body to get in front of the net and screen the goalie or mixing it up with the opponents’ biggest player, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound hockey forward will do anything to help his team win.
And in his opinion it all starts with finishing each and every check — something he displayed on Friday night when he completely laid out Northern Michigan’s 6-foot-5, 250-pound Phil Axtell.
Quote:
To match Conboy’s physical style of play, he has a great set of hands and can make the extra pass — something not typical of players who hit as much as he does.
MSU head coach Rick Comley is very high on Conboy’s talent and potential. He even called Conboy an NHL-type player.
Lets hope that project surprises us all.

He's a big boy that seems to enjoy the physical aspects of the game for sure, was said to be one of the top fighters in the USHL and at Michigan St, he seems to take the body and go to the net hard despite his team having a disappointing season so far.

But it's hard to really evaluate his season since he's a rare overaged freshman, as he's only a couple months younger then David Fischer who is in his junior year, so Conboy has the advantage of being an more experienced rookie that is already physically mature as he will turn 21 just after this season ends.

Still it's nice to have a big physical forward that can fight in the system, that at least has some hands, so who's to say how much he will improve at Michigan St over the next few seasons before turning pro. The Habs will have a lot of time to look him over before they even have to make a decision on him, so hopefully he continues to progress.

Three seasons... the length of Laraque's contract.

Bonneau never had hockey skills or potential.

He's already faster then Bonneau ever will.

Conboy is one of my favorite prospect for sure. He's a much better hockey player then you'd expect a guy like him to be.

Honestly, we're a skilled based team but you look at some of the prospects in the system and you realize we have some tough customers with NHL potential. I think Greg Stewart will make the NHL, with us, or somebody else, then if conboy does as well. These two guys seem like fearless middleweights who won't back down. Both are said to have some, not a lot, but some skill, so they won't be a liability or a wasted roster spot. It's exciting. I don't want to be the goon squad or anything, but imagine having a kosto who can actually fight...awesome. These guys make teams win. They do the dirty work, not only fighting. He'd go in front of the net, he'd play physical, he'd drop the gloves, he has skill, and most importantly, there's no denying these guys have a will to win. Hopefully he makes it, we don't have many of his kind in the system IMO.

He's from minnesota. He's saying the truth, no problem with that. Hell, if i got drafted by toronto, i'd say my favourite team is MTL anyway.

I've had a feeling about him since he was drafted, but I couldn't tell you that I saw more than youtube videos and read reports.

The few times I've seen him, I keep thinking man does he look big, and he knows how to use that frame. He's playing for one of the top coaches in the NCAA, so I hope he can work with him to round out his game to be more effective. An interesting prospect since we lack big tough guys that have some skill.

Yes it is basically Conboy and Steve Quailer as the big guys they have drafted the last few years. Wow forgot about Patches but he looks like he has made it or will be a regular by next year at least.

Basically...

A 6'3" Kostopoulos that likes to hit everything that moves would rock.

Greatest news about it is that if he makes it and does a great job.....we will finally be able to stop talking about getting only Niinimaa for Ribeiro....

I would think he would be more of a heavy weight, he's a big boy that I assume will get at least a little bigger.

People are quick to forget that by getting Niinimaa we also got the picture of his infinite sadness, wich is a least worth Ribeiro.

Yeah, sounds like a 3rd-4th liner with some skills, gritty with heart. Every team needs a player like that.
