If Preds fall out of playoff race

To Hawks
C Radek Bonk

To Predators
3rd round pick

Bonk will be a UFA after year and could end up going to Europe to finish his career. If Hawks are unable to acquire a #2 C if we pick up Bonk we could maintain a strong defensive 3rd line while moving Bolland up to #2 line.

Bonk is a very good defensive center. I also believe somewhere he still has scoring touch. Playing with Ladd and Havlat could reignite the offensive game of Bonk.

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Versteeg-Bolland-Byfuglien
Ladd-Bonk-Havlat
Eager-Burish-Brouwer

I'd take that as a Hawks fan, but I don't see the Preds liking this too much. Bonk is very good defensively, and killer on faceoffs.

Seems fair if Bonk is a UFA but I don't see Nashville being out of the picture by the trade deadline.

No room under cap for that.

I also don't like the idea of removing Bolland from Ladd and Havlat nor do I believe Bonk will have any real offensive contribution with Buff and Versteeg.

I got rid of Fraser and assume Sopel will go on longterm IR to fit him under cap.

Yes it would be risky to move Bolland but as far as i consider it he may end up being the only option to improve our #2 C slot.

At least with Bonk we maintain the defense level of our 3rd line. Plus I believe Bonk still has some offense in him. Playing with Ladd and Havlat could be a good way to get him at least contributing offensively again.

Another major reason for acquiring Bonk is because Sharp seems to be getting worse at the faceoff circle

You know that goal Bonk scored against you guys on Saturday was the first ES goal he'd scored in over a year, right?

That said, I'd take it if we're out of the playoff picture, but we probably won't be out of the playoff picture so it's moot.

Yes i know that!

Bonk is an enigma in my opinion. I remember him being a Sen and i still see the same player on the ice but for some reason the offense vanished

Anything is possible in the bottom half of the West this year. The Preds are only 4 points out. Los Angeles, in 14th, are only 5 points out.

Meh, if Nashville was selling they'd probably do it.

Had to bump this thread

Bonk is tied for league lead for faceoff % at 62%

Hawks are in need badly of a man who could win faceoffs.

He also would be good to have thru stretch run with Sharp out until the playoffs.

I'd still take it, although I'd prefer to get a prospect for Bonk, preferably a young defensive center with good size (basically, a younger version of Bonk).

id bump it up to maybe a second or a third and a fourth bonk is a good defensive forward and judging by the last canucks hawks game they could use one!

I'd take the best available offer and maybe this would be it. There are a number of teams that could use a defensive minded face-off specialist (2nd in the league)- I think the offers could be better.

any sens fan can tell you: bonk + havlat never worked.

on the other hand, he would really help out defensively and in the faceoff circle at this point in his career. Hard to imagine he used to be a 1st round pick and was ottawa's #1 center for a season (granted, it was the season sat out).
