Nothing special.. nothing unusual in this... ( wich is the sad part )

A normal parent has his child as his most important priority.
When you put a child in a competitive situation and you add parents that watch a series of event that they don't have the control of, you can get a pretty ugly result.

Thank god my parents never pulled that kind of stuff at my hockey games back then. I wasnt really good neither and never they would **** on me for making mistakes on the ice.

Is it that difficult to preach fun in sports as a parent ?
I remember other parents back then, my parents looked like the special ones I guess. The normal thing to do was yelling at refs, coaches or other team kids. lol youth hockey craziness

It's not really normal..a little booing okay. A little PG heckling is awright I guess but some swearing at refs and encouraging your kid to punch him should never be considered in any way Normal.

I managed my son's team for three years and this happened twice to me. One time it was a parent on my team that went bonkers and threatened the refs with post game violence and he had to leave because the cops were called to the rink to pick him up.

Stupid behaviour over house league hockey that ultimately exists only to have fun. None of the players in house league go into pro hockey they are just there for fun. The parents are the boneheads that escalate things in most of these scenarios.

Hate hearing things like this. I started coaching this year and thankfully all the parents on my team are great. Very supportive of everyone's kid and us coaches which is great because I was told to watch out for parents that will try to take advantage of me because I am young and have no vested interest in any kids, since I don't have any. Ridiculous how parents get upset at referees that are out there for the kids not the money.

Got to remember that it is not only hockey but most any sport. So many of these parents never made it in sports and are living threw their kids. Add to it that some actually think their kid has a chance to make a living in a particular sport and they go crazy.

Does Quebec still allow alcohol to be sold at minor league hockey games? I think that this may be part of the problem.

We've been to a few tournaments in Quebec when I was a kid and we always had a few parents that would get drunk and go overboard. It was pretty embarassing.

Agreed. Once I was playing in a tournament in Gatineau and we were playing in the Championship game.
The game before us was an Atom game and our game had to be cancelled because that atom game got too out of hand (there was a big brawl where even the parents had gone on the ice and were fighting with eachother and the refs).

My sister is so peaceful. Doesn't like violence. Then I went with her to see her kid play hockey and she became Miss Hyde. She was screaming like Hell with the other parents and I felt freakin embarassed. After the game, when they went away I said to her "is it always like this?". And she said "yea, so what? we like to support them , nothing wrong with that". I swear it was like talking to a complete stranger. Quite a circus to witness too.
