I feel for the kid. Having a stick, that Zetterberg handed to you personally as he was leaving the Winter Classic - you're gonna show this stick to your kids and tell them the story.
Having a stick that the Red Wings mailed to you after the newspapers enforced it for you (not to mention that Zetterberg has probably never played with it)...that's just NOT the same.
Anyway...he's fourteen. He should have at least argued with that guy (or tell him to **** off).
Depends on the kid how well he can stand up for himself. Some kids are terrified of authority figures and can be easily coerced. Heck, only a couple years ago we were having a huge discussion on a nearly 20 year old Malkin being coerced into signing a contract because people guilted him into it. Oh yeah, and he cried, too. So, I dunno if the story has some element of fabrication, but its certainly feasible.
Kid seems like a spoiled little brat to me. Come on, a 14 year old crying because he got his stick taken away from him, and then emailing the organization and the newspaper just screams attention *****.
We'll see what you do if you're given something that unique and rare and its stolen from you. I can pretty much assure you, anyone on this site who is a true hockey fan that gets something like that and its taken away isn't going to go home going "oh well, ***** happens"
