I know some people like to say it's just a bruise, but here are two name to think about -- Myositis Ossificans and Cam Neely.
I imagine more people are familiar with Neely, but Myositis Ossificans is just as infamous since it ended Neely's career and it's a condition that can occur from a complication of a contusion stemming from returning to activity too soon. Basically it causes bone to begin growing inside of and around your muscles and turn it into a hardened mass.
It was obvious that Ivanans was trying to get something going with Artyukhin, but Artyukhin isn't stupid. His team had a lead and he isn't going to go up against a heavyweight like Ivanans. At this point somebody like Greene needs to step in, especially if a guy like Zeiler isn't in the line-up. Greene should target a player like Lecavalier. I'm not saying take an over the top run at him or just take an instigator, but just let the Lightning know that their star players have targets on them now.
Exactly a simple shove or a facewash between the right players can send the same message. He doesn't have to suckerpunch the guy but clearing him out of the way a little harder than usual the next time Vinny is close to a frozen puck is just as effective.
Guys like Greene, Simmonds, Brown, Quincey, O'Sullivan, and Stoll (Johnson and Doughty too once they're back) need to realize that more than likely they'll be spending the next few years here as Kings and wil be playing together, they need to accept that and start looking out for eachother and watching eachothers backs. If something happens to one of them, it should fall to one of the others to make a big play and step up. I don't care if that big play is a great play on a goal (O'Sullivan, Stoll) a big hit (Brown) or dropping the gloves (Greene, Simmonds.) Something should happen and until things like that do this team is going nowhere.
I don't think the hit was that dirty. I just have a problem with him running one of our stars. That being said, my feelings wouldn't have been hurt if OD had taken an instigator call on Artyukhin in his defense.
In the post-game interviews, OD seemed to indicate that if he had know Doughty was really hurt things might have been different.
Too little, too late, Sean.
Well, it wasn't too surprising since Stamkos was getting run early. I wish him a quick heal, though, he was VERY impressive.
I think the Kings players should of obviously done something about the hit on Doughty. That being said I would like to see some more fire and passion coming out of Murray, not just quietly benching someone quietly.
This could be a season ending injury right? If that is the case, we can kiss this season goodbye and I think a top 5 pick is now possible.
Just being a realist.
As long as they monitor it carefully and don't rush him back before it's healed he should be okay. In Neely's case the contusion was pretty significant and there was still some blood inside his thigh from the collision which subsequently calcified.
Some of you act like the report is Doughty has a "severed head" and was just placed on the IR.
Using some of the arguments I have read, does that mean everytime Brownie runs a "star" on an opposing team and knocks him on his ass, it earns "payback" akin to running one of our stars, fight, cheapshot, etc.?
