I would rather do this deal than the Lecavalier deal!!!

With this deal, we are taking a risk on an older player who may be past his prime, but at least we aren't losing half of our team to do it....but with the Lecavalier deal, we are giving up half of our good players and taking on a huge contract for the next 11 years. That will seriously effect our teams ability to sign any other players.

We don't need help at center right now anyways. Lang is playing awesome, Pleks is getting hot and we'll soon have Koivu back too. Not to mention the way Lapierre is playing. He is playing well enough to earn 2nd line ice time.

Must have been a slow day in the hockey world yesterday....

The "experts" have got Vinnie coming to the Habs for 4 or 5 players; hockeyscribe22 posts about the habs and Pens talking with the names Kovalev, Pacioretty, Whitney and Malkin thrown in; habfans.com has posted that according to team 1200, Gainey is close to trading Chipchura to Calgary for Mark Giordano; and now Kypreos reports Schneider is on his way......

It's all true.

I would like it to happen, but only for a pick or mid-end prospect and a guy like Dandenault.

I read Higgins vs Schneider somewhere.. no way!!!

He has shown he can be an excellent complementary player on a team, so why not? The trade value is low but salary cap related it's still a decent hit, even halfway through the year. I haven't crunched the #s nor intend to, but I'm sure its possible to fit vinny and schneider, somehow.
Pretty sure you cant trade a player on IR

Some people confuse RUMORS with DONE DEAL.

NHL GM's talk trade all the time, they talk potential good fits and frameworks of trades, but more often than not things fall through. For every trade that happens 4-5 are negotiated and fail to happen. For example, if Vinny gets traded, I'm sure 4-5 teams are involved in negotiations but he can only go to one team.

Giordano would be a great acquisition. Seriously underrated player, on a great contract.

I totally agree. I like Giordano as well. Add O'Byrne in the mix and get a pick....I have a hard time believing in this though since Vandermeer and Warrener are out unless Vandermeer is ready to come back....Warrener is out for the season....Unless they have somebody in the minors who could help them, maybe Eriksson will come back from the minors...

hmm... Giordano for Chipchura. That seems like a good and fair deal. Gainey and Sutter are good partners.

a quick look through habfans threads and I couldn't find this info.

Ok... thanks, I see it there.

Just speculation, if there were two deals (one for Vinny involving Gorges), then Giordano would seemingly be a ready-made Gorges replacement.

Giordano would quickly become the new whipping boy. He gets beaten by skilled forwards routinely, takes bad penalties etc.

that leaves Montreal 2.5mil short

Dandenault is 1.725 not likely to return and when he does it's Hamilton bound for rehab.

So they are now only 775 thousand short so they can pull off the Lecavalier deal.
$775K would be the salary of one of our Hamilton-eligable (ie. waiver-free) young guns, would it not? Or... wait, is Laroque on long-term IR? If so, wouldn't his salary be enough to cover that $775K + Higgins, Tanguay etc.

You can't demote a player on the IR, but I'm pretty sure you can trade a player on the IR.

I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I love Chipchura, but Ryan White is a similar player who can replace him in our system.. Giordano is a very good young defenseman.

To Calgary: Chipchura + O'Byrne
To Montreal: Giordano + Keetley

?

Didn't check Calgary's roster, but if they don't need Chipchura right now and he's just depth for the future for them, wouldn't Calgary ask for Ryan White instead? A guy that played in their backyard for a while, who knows what the Habs management think of Chipchura and saying that there might be no room for both White and Chipchura and decided to keep Chipchura instead....

Honestly, and I'm gonna get laughed at for saying this....I would not trade Ryan White right now. I would be more tempted to let Chip go than White. But I'm just thinking that Calgary could be tempted to bring the kid back home.

I would love Chipchura to go to Calgary he is more a Suter type guy Carbo I think has a dislike for Chipchura and he won't get to his potiential level by staying in the Habs organization - do you think Carbo would stay behind after practice and help him with face offs or other tips like he does with his french boys? Not in this life time.
