I agree that they need to pick other shooters. If you got the same 3 guys coming up, chances are other goalies know whats coming.

Although Flyers coach John Stevens likes to think his team practices the shootout on a daily basis, the truth is the time spent doing it is minimal.

Which may be one reason why the Flyersí record in the shootout this season is a poor 2-5. Itís not just this season, either. Historically, the Flyers are horrific in the shootout with a 10-23 record.

Stevens used much of his practice time on Wednesday at Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J., working on the shootout with both goalies and a selection of shooters.

This is both frustrating and welcoming news. Frustrating that Stevens has still ignored the importance of shootouts up to this point, but welcoming that he is finally addressing it.

Philly.com article on the shoot-out training:

Quote:
"If I have the option, I'll always shoot first just because the percentages tell you that you should," coach John Stevens said. "Play Jersey, they want you to shoot first, probably because of the history with [Martin] Brodeur. If your goalie makes the first save, it's a good decision. I haven't seen the information lately, but the team that shoots first wins 70 percent-plus of the time. You have to hit me more over the head with a crowbar to [not] get me to listen to that stat."
