On the whole of the year...Biron has been very average. He's been playing well of late, however; if that's the argument you're trying to make.

I just don't want these guys to struggle for a win tonight against one of the worst teams in the league...

a) Don't believe everything you read. Downie has issues with keeping himself under control, but he's not a goon. He's a damn good player.

b) Why the hell would Downie fight Asham? It would be an incredibly stupid thing to do based on playing ability, Asham outweighs him by a ton, and Downie isn't a fighter. He will fight, but that's not where his game and skill lie.

My hope is that Downie doesn't rack up a boatload of points, but I fear the Flyers will have a hell of a time controlling the boards when Downie is out there.

I hope Downie plays tonight. And gets a few clean hits from his former teammates

It'll be a fun game, I think. Also, MSE...I wanted to write a song about how awesome your GDT's are, but I dunno, I got lazy. I'll try before the season is over, I reckon.

On a side note, I was reading an article from the GDT about Tampa ruining Stamkos' young career. People on this board and other places often ask if a team or manager could truly "screw" with a players development...thats exactly how.

Even though players have talent, they need to be the complete package in order to be successful in the NHL, or any top tier league. That includes a strong mental makeup, strong conditioning, solid all-around strength, and a team that develops the player through coaching, game tape, etc...

The Lightning clearly have missed this on several fronts.

Lecavalier was in a much worse situation, he was the number 1 centre etc I mean Stamkos is only centering the 3rd line, gets PP time. So yeah if Lecavalier can turn out to become a Rocket Richard winner after that, then Stamkos can certainly do ok.

We're talking about two entirely different players, here. Just based on size and skill, Vincent dwarfs Steven now and in their first seasons. Tampa Bay has also become a shell of its former self, clearly employing the wrong individuals who cannot lead or develop this team. I'm not saying Stamkos will be awful, but he is not an NHL player at this point and needs further seasoning.

Oh man, I got scared when 7 hit and Sportsnite ended, and then I saw Barkann with some Eagles report thing. I thought they were on CN8 again -- and almost died.
