And why is it laughable? Are you saying Ovechkin is not in shape? He logs more minutes than anybody except Green.

His Grandpa has been hospitalized for a few weeks, that's when Ovechkin's slump started. He was very good before that, in pre-season. Obviously Alex' Mom left DC to be with her Dad, before that she was taking care of even Varlamov. Ovechkin's Grandpa basically raised him because his Dad and Mom (and especially Mom) were both working. Here's what Tatiana Ovechkina said about her father:

Quote:
Our grandfather, my father, is even more amazing! Modest and kind. When Alex was born, he was not even one month old, grandpa moved in with us. His work became a secondary thing, he was babysitting Alex. He fed him, walked him while I was at work. He was taking him to the training, traveled to many games. He carried his duffel bag. Now he is really proud of his grandson. Just couldn't reach Washington yet. He is old.
Ovechkin said in interview back when he was a rookie that his Grandpa installed the satellite dish to watch all Caps games (after midnight!).

How can you not go into slump when your dearest person is sick?

There's no mystery here...

The same thing happened when I posted on CBJ board my opinion that Zherdev wasn't going to be a great player for them before Zherdev joined them. Last offseason I said that the day is not so far when Malkin outscores Crosby.

Just go back and read some of these comments about Ovechkin being in the best shape of his life - just laughable.
When you actually tell us something valuable...I'll thank you. You're speculating...Did you also predict that Crosby would get hurt which allowed Malkin to outscore him?

Siberian showed up on the main board in the Crosby's Hurt thread. First time I had seen him in a long time. Not surprisingly, he was taking shots at Ovechkin.

Why gang up on him? He's Russian and obviously had more exposure to OV than most people. I kept tabs on him over the summer and it was pretty obvious that he was partying a lot. The fact that he was able to pick up after a month was expected, but he was slumping worse than at any other time in his career.

It looked really funny from the beginning.

The funniest part is that he hasn't come back to the thread to defend his opinion.

Either way, he foresaw Ovechkin slumping before the season began, which I'm pretty sure no one else did. I remember he was partying a lot but I still thought he'd still score at least goal every 2 games or so. Obviously he took his ideas a bit too far when predicting a 35 goal season but I remember a lot of people not sold on him getting 30 during the middle of the slump.

And from what I know he found out his grandfather was seriously ailing right after the Dallas game, and went to Russia immediately afterwards.

And it would be funny if he didn't actually have the biggest slump of his career in the season, which did go along with Siberian's predictions. People predict all kinds of things here all the time that don't come true in the least, observing OV enough to take a far from obvious prediction that turns out more true than 95% of the ones posted is worth some commendation at least.

I would add that people like him are all around in pundit land. How much risk is it to say something like this? Say something off base and say you have all this information theb when proven wrong, its all about AO being a great playe. No downside. But if right... Yoo look like a genius. Yeah big risk.

I dislike and don't respect those types of pundits and predictions.

You'd be wrong.

It's entirely possible to agree with/defend a person and not be that person. Fascinating how the world works, isn't it?

And yeah... I guess no one can ever accurately judge anything. Anyone who does so is a pundit who pulls stuff out of his ass and if it comes true, well, that's just an accident. No upside.

That's idiotic. Ovechkin gained almost 20 pounds this offseason. None of it was flab. That doesn't happen when you do nothing but laze around and party for 5 months.

Ovechkin may well have been living the international superstar lifestyle on camera, but he also worked like a dog to put on that weight.

This has my vote for the most epic thread for the 08-09 season. Will be more entertaining at the end of the season.

1 was a joke... smile. Its fine to agree with him. Bush still has an approval rating over more than one person.

2 I welcome people making sound, lucid judgement/predictions. Many do here. However what makes him different is the guy never came back to say hey, I was wrong. He should have came back over and over saying "I was wrong". "I was wrong" with the same humility that matched his arrogance when he was "right". THAT'S what makes his prognostication very limited in its sincerity and what makes him a blowhard... broken clock stigma for the first month notwithstanding.

For instance... I was wrong on Flash. I say it over and over. CROW yum!
