You sure it's safe to skate on, though?

I wish St. John's had an outdoor hockey rink that wasn't on a pond.

Just be glad you have the option. in the uk you don't get outside rinks except at christmas when they make small ones near cathedrals to kids can get over charged to skate on **** ice and fall over loads.
i dream of playing pond hockey in the US/Canada or Sweden!

I haven't tried it out yet, but I did see 4-6 people on it other day when I drove past. If you're worried about ring the city?

Arnold's Cove has one of the best outdoor rinks I've ever seen.

No its actually a rink.....with cement floor and boards like you would see in an arena. They have chain-link fence on each end to act as glass.

They play all year round on it and when it gets cold enough they flood it with a hose and it freezes perfect. Its worth a look for sure. Its where there school hockey teams play as far as I know.

Last time I checked, humans were a social species. Go and get 10 of your friends and build a damn rink. Get some boards, some hammers, nails, a giant hose, a 3x24 packs of beers. Because if you don't build a rink, no one else will.

Here are the plans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_hockey_rink

Now go, and you better keep us updated.
