I got a Habs jersey personalized with my name and number in 2004. I didn't get it to feel like i'm on the team, it's just neat to have my own name and my favorite number stiched on to a Habs jersey. And about the whole ''well, you're not on the team'' crap, well are you Carey Price, Saku Koivu, Mike Komisarek, etc., etc.? Plus, like some other guy mentioned, if you have a player jersey, there's always the chance of that player getting traded or signing with another team.

''Damn, Ryder just signed with Boston. I just got his jersey a few months ago. Gee, i'm going to feel like a dork if I wear this to a game''.

+1 on the lameness. I'm not sure why but I find it lame.

People can do what they want though, but I wouldn't want my own name on the jersey.

I don't see the problem with it

A player will come and go, the team is forever and I will forever be a Habs fan

My favorite sweater name was one I saw at the Carolina game on the 21st.

Don't remember the number but the name on the back was L'Aveuglette, the guy who everyone passes to but never does anything with the puck.

I either put an old legend on it.
Or leave it blank, as I love the team, and not the players (cept for the obvious few).

You can never go wrong with throwing historic names on your jersey such as Turgeon, Carbo, Muller, Damphousse etc etc.

Of course....Price is always a good fit and the "C" on a Koivu with 100th season+all star emblems would look sick.

Yeah, and it's why Lecavalier (if he ever comes here) should wear #49 or #94. The nine for Richards and the 4 for Beliveau and himself.

No letter at all if you want it to be the 1945 (50 in 50) year
A C if you want it to be 1960 (his last year and the 5th straight cup)....

So really you shouldn't put any name on a habs jersey with a number 9 on it... No Richard, No Gardener, No anything.

Same for a #4 Beliveau.... it shouldn't have his name stitched on it.

Beliveau and Richard never wore their names on their jerseys.

I still have my Wrotkowski #26 in my closet. Sleeves are way too small to fit anymore. I was even a captain then...

I was actually hoping that they wouldn't put the names on the vintage jerseys for the 100th for that reason... but i guess the PA wouldn't be happy as they would get less money. I think the PA gets a direct cut anytime a jersey is sold with a player's name and number on it.

Thats why you can't order retired name/number combos on NHLshop.com

If I were to put my name on a jersey, I would be told by everyone in the Bell Centre that theres a typo in my name.

I thought it would be nice to get one with my name and number and maybe hang it on the wall in my den or something. I'm not sure I'd want to walk around town with my name on the jersey though.

I have absolutely no problem with it. My dad bought me a mario lemieux jersey and put my name on it when i was a kid. I was young back then, so it's different, but I have no objection whatsoever to people doing it. It's your money, your jersey, do what you want. Players get traded too or left unsigned, so like people said, ryder jerseys might look weird, especially since he's on the bruins, and even more so if we're playing vs the bruins.

I'm surprised people even object to this whatsoever. Some people say "I want to be like Koivu" and get a #11, some people say if i'm talking pure fantasy, why the hell can't I take it a step further and put my own name on it and make it more personal?
