It's the money he gave to re-sign him that's impressive.

Yeah, except Savard would have given him a 100% raise. It's not about the signing, it's about the amount (which impacts directly the margin we have to sign Kovalev and/or other UFAs)..

This is even more impressive : Montreal got Zednik from Washington with Jan Bulis and a first-round 2001 draft pick (Alexander Perezhogin) for Trevor Linden, Dainius Zubrus and a second-round 2001 pick. from TSN.com

Possibly our best trade in a long time. Can you guys find any other lopsided deals in our favor?

The Hackett vs Thibeault trade was also very good for our franchise. Without Hackett in his prime, our team would have been terrible.

Begin, Langdon vs nothing is good enough too!!

This signing is great!!! 3 years, i predicted that. But I thought that he would earn 8 millions for that deal. 7.3 is great!!

But the Flyers have done even better. Gagne for 1.6 or 1.8 i think...I don't know the lenght of the contract.

We traded John Kordic to Toronto for Russ Courtnall. Slam dunk.I think the trade of Shayne Corson to Edmonton for Vincent Damphousse in a multi-player deal was a real good one for us also. A perhaps controversial call on my part is the Kirk Muller and I think Mathieu Schneider to NY Isles for Pierre Turgeon and Vladimir Malakhov. I loved Muller but in terms of impact Muller's best years were well behind him and we got a 40 goal 90 point player in return. We gave up a ton of grit and character though. Of course, we then stupidly (hello Rejean) then gave up Turgeon and Craig Conroy to St. Louis for Corson and Murray Barron.

Ouch! Murray Baron...He heard that Murray was good against Lindros if i remember well :lol Or that he was a key player in last playoffs.

At least Corson gave us a couple of good seasons. Remember the year he went to the Olympics? He was smokin' that year.

1st year...2.3 million

2nd year 2.4 million

3rd year 2.6 million

This sounds good to me. 7.3 million over three years. Gainey does it again!

He is better than Perrault(sp) who was making something like 2.8-2.9 million last year.

In the last few days, I speculated about the worth of the contract and I am proud to say that I was in the ball park.

The market has gone down considerably. This signing is a testimony to this fact.

Now let's get Kovalev inked.

Im nothing short of stoked - signing Zeds proves to me that BG liked where we were going last year and wants to push the envelope - This is a good sign that we are gonna have quite a close, focused group this season, and I couldn't be happier.

GO HABS GO

I have no problems with Corson at all. He was always a pretty good player, who could go too. He's a better version of Begin, and bigger too.

I cannot believe we got Zed to re-sign for less than Bonk...(that's true right?)...unbelieveable...I wonder if Gainey made any promises about who he might re-sign afterward or if he told Zed that he wouldn't have to play on the second line anymore...haha.

Yeah, he got Zed signed for 800 K less. Although Bonk had way more experience and many more productive seasons under his belt than Zednik has.
