Do most minny fans think that Sheppard can start scoring? There's been a lot of first rounders over the years who never came close to what they were able to do in Junior, so I wouldn't want to count on it myself. There's definitely other teams that have more use for Kubina though.
Honestly yes; if they ever put him with wingers with offensive ability. He makes good plays it's just there isn't anyone to finish. I believe he will be a solid 2nd line center averaging 50-65 points/year.

Honestly though I'd love for this to happen, from a Minnesota perspective I could see them having some serious interests in Antropov and Poni, moreso than Kubina.

He's fine. He had a very slow start to this season. Very slow.

But he's really turned it on over the last 10 games or so. He's been great and starting to get some points. If he keeps it up, he will pass his total points from last year, despite his slow start.

He's 20. He's already a decent 3rd line center. By 23, he should be a great all-around 2nd center. After that, who knows, maybe more.

I don't think the Wild are going to deal one of their better young players for Pavel Kubina and a first rounder on top of it?

If the Wild are going to offer that I take it and run.

If thats the benchmark then the Wild are overpaying imo. Really, do you know who James Sheppard is? IMO you should so a little research before making stupid comments. What is with you buddy?

The incentive is pretty obvious. The Leafs are getting a 20 year old player who was drafted 9th overall 2 years ago. Sheppard is not going to be an all-star player by any means (though you nevr know) but he will be a very good player in this league. Don't make any Bernier comparisons either as the two scenerios are completely different. The Sharks needed a dman whereas the Wild don't, not at all.

Really Icewind, I don't mean to be cruel but you should familiarize yourself with other teams and players around the league. Watching 82 Leafs games a year makes you knowledable on the Leafs not the game as a whole.

You can't base your evaluations of a player on when he was drafted. At the same time, it looks like Minnesota fans are pretty high on him just the same, so someone like Tyler Cuma or Colton Gillies would fill the same role, just as the first two that come to mind. If Burke liked another prospect, I could see them in there instead.

This deal is not happening.

Wild have zero, READ: ZERO, interest in Kubina. Go try to poach from another team. Sheppard, Gillies, and Cuma aren't going anywhere.

Again, I didn't propose the deal, and earlier in the thread I said the deal wouldn't happen. You're assuming way too much.

Until recently, I thought that Sheppard should be sent down to the AHL. Not due to lack of skill but because of confidence. As others have mentioned, he has looked much more consistent that past 5-8 games.

He is very strong on the boards, shows some decent moves and has an underrated shot. He is being groomed the same way Mikko was--he has been playing 3rd line checking center with Veilleux and Clutterbuck and has been playing very smart defensively.

I think he is going to be very similar to Koivu--not as intense but I think he has a heavier shot.

I won't touch the proposal since everyone else has.

Definitely. Like Koivu, less intense, but much quicker.

Again, the Wild would rather keep Sheppard. And for a team that has just about 0 prospects, even with DR at the helm, I don't see a 1st round pick being available.
