Leclaire is possibly out for the season (somehow) and might be traded at some point.

Our current back up, Dan Lacosta will NOT cut it.

We need a back up.

FWIW, it is not the first time a player has been claimed via waivers in these circumstances. See the Orszagh situation a few seasons ago, signed by Phoenix claimed by St. Louis.

You need a backup?

Please, right now the Isles' two goalies are the AHL starter and AHL backup at the start of the season.

Oh I know it's not the first, nor the last, but just with NYI's goaltending situation this is sort of a dick move lol, especially when Sanford was just available.

We're as surprised as you are. We thought Sanford would be wearing blue, white & red by now.

We also thought that the only team that might take Sanford before we could claim him was...well, the New York Islanders.

And in '96 the Oil claimed Glenn Anderson when the Canucks tried to sign him.

He was pissed.

I'm pretty sure Columbus needs to worry about it's own problems.

Why would they not claim him just because of the Islander's needs.

If they worried about everyone else's needs, they would never improve.

The Pens did it with Steve Webb in 03-04 as well. Signed by the Flyers, claimed by the Pens, sent down by the Pens, claimed by the Isles.

I don't see any problem with this, thems the rules.

Sanford must have passed through waivers by now.

Are we an elite team or something? This is the second consecutive game we've played where we won a game and the losing team either got rid of a goaltender (Sanford) or got a new one (Dub obviously).

Wouldn't Sanford have to pass re-entry waivers?

He would just end up being a back up in NY when Dipietro came back next year...

Yes ... but it's doubtful the Canucks bring him up - and it's even less doubtful the Islanders trade for him while he's still in the minors and needing to clear recall waivers to come back up.
