I'd prefer to keep Phillips. Value isn't interesting enough to warrant trading him, and I'm not all that concerned about resigning him at a reasonable rate.

Why: He's outstanding paired with a young player and makes a drastic improvement in their development. He helped Volchenkov become the D-man he is today, and he looks very promising paired with Brian Lee.

The value's definitely there, but I don't think the Sens will trade arguably their best defenceman, creating a hole that I don't think Gilbert could fill. I'm interested in Gilbert for sure, but would rather give up a forward, like Fisher if that would be fair.

Edmonton says no.

Phillips is an upgrade over Staios but not someone who you trade Gilbert for.

I know that the Oilers were looking at Fisher too.

Put this in the Mix too.

You can probably take out the 2nd and Ottawa would say yes, but that's only if Fisher waives his NMC. Fisher is great, but it's a bit problematic that we have him as our 2nd line center when Vermette is better suited to that role. If Fisher could actually play the wing, then it would make more sense to keep him.

you mean the 1st?! I would only give a 2nd for the overpayed Mike Fisher. Plus the draft is so deep our 1st is more valuable.

I say yes. With Souray and Visnovsky in Edmonton Gilbert is always going to be the 3rd priority on the point. Ottwawa could use his offensive upside and Edmonton could use a top pairing defensive defenseman.

Lose the 3rd rounder, though. No reason for Edmonton to give up a draft pick.

Are you kidding? Did you know that NHL teams must watch their spending because there is a salary cap in place?

Are you aware that Fisher is one of the most overpaid players for the money he's making per game this year in terms of offensive production?

Are you aware of the fact that there's never been a trade since the salary cap has come in place in which one team has eaten that much cap space?

Interesting offer all though I wouldn't do it from an Oilers point of view.

Gladly keep Gilbert. Phillips is really good, but Staios does a decent enough job in the same role. Gilbert is going to be a perennial 40pt d-man (and thats with 2nd unit PP time).

+1 .. Gilbert has been our top pairing dman for over a year now and has been handling it alright.. Phillips is great but not at the cost of Gilbert.

Edmonton is all over that. Phillips would solidify the Oilers back end in a big way. Gilbert is good offensively but he's a liability in his own zone. For every good play he makes he has several mistakes that result in quality scoring opportunities.

By the way, temper your comments. Oilers player values are at an all time high. We won a game last night so our players are superstars again rather than the bums they were 24 hours ago.
