Not sure where you're from but USA Hockey sponsors lots of IP (Initiation Program) hockey leagues at rinks all over the country. I do believe that they also have similar programs throughout Canada.

It's great for kids to get their feet wet. Most of the time you can even rent all or most of the equipment (minus the cup, stick, and mouth piece). They do not do games but a series of coaching stations that work on passing, skating, stick handling, and other hockey skills.

It can also be weak ankles that will become stronger through more skating.

There's nothing better than watching your son or daughter play hockey. It makes winter enjoyable and it's a blast seeing them grow up, become good teammates and develop as players and people. My son is a second year bantam rep player and it's sad knowing that I only have another three seasons of getting to watch him play.

Have fun.
