Only Pierre McGuire could make Mike Milbury look intelligent.

I'm an NYI fan. So I know all about Milbury's ineptness in the front office. But what does his incompetence as GM have to do with the validity of his opinion?

Does that disqualify a person from ever having a reasonable point of view?

I have no idea how to even begin to address your "goon" comment. Milbury was a hard-ass NHLer and personality who's approach to the game would no doubt upset those who wish the NHL to simply be figure skating on ice. As for the NASCAR comment, I'll let someone else defend that "sport".

Look, if you do not think fighting belongs in the game, great!

At least you Americans only have to see Pierre once a week. How do you think we feel up here?

Pierre's hilarious, his enthusiasm levels ebb and flow depending on the team playing on the ice. During last week's TSN games, he delivered a horribly biased account of the Ottawa Senators (he was especially unfair towards Elliott), and then followed it up by overhyping all of the Leafs that are poised to be traded. I say this as a Leafs fan, but his bias seemed really clear, and it was shameful to watch.

Pierre on the air is pretty nutso, but dumber and less talented than Cherry? At self-promotion and selling a public image yes, Pierre is dumber. Pierre was not as successful a coach as Grapes, although one got a cup ring as an assistant and the other didn't. So it's all objective.

I wish guys like Millbury and Cherry would stop saying 'pansification' and start saying 'pussification' like they really mean.

What they really mean is that fighting is manly and not fighting is for pansies.

They should step up and take responsibility for their sexism instead of trying to hide behind their false ideals of honour and 'the code'.

Shows you how smart the Habs management is. I have always been wary of drafting a goalie so high up in the first round, but Price has allayed those fears for me. And Timmins & co. probably realized that to win a cup in the future, it wasn't going to be flukey Jose Theodore or solid journeyman Cristobal Huet or even Gumby Halak who was going to do it. But Pierre seemed to think the depth made up for the lack of an elite goalie in that list. Guess people still believed in Theo back then.

McGuire is annoying but he knows hockey. Milbury is an ignorant piece of garbage with the IQ of a turnip. Anyone who thinks fighting is part of hockey should be put in a cage with him so they spend their lives throwing feces at each other.

Seriously? That was the most staged and unfunny thing I've ever seen.

Different strokes I guess.

ps The media up here in Canada are absolutely nuts and ARE THE DRIVING FORCE of this "questioning" of fighting in hockey. Bob McKenzie, by far has been the biggest pusher since this accident.
All McKenzie has said is that a dialogue should be opened to see if deaths could be avoided in the future, because to stand around and stick with the status quo without at least considering other opinions would be negligent.

As usual, level-headed stuff from the best commentator in the sport.

Jim Kelly has been a lot worse than McKenzie.

Would such "dialogue" be occurring if Don Sanderson had died from his helmet flying off as a result of a body check? Helmets come off for multiple reasons, not just fighting. Lastly, Don Sanderson didn't die from fighting.
You say level-headed stuff, I say pandering to emotion.

The hockey media in Canada is driving the issue because the hockey media in the US is......oh, wait a second.

Injuries incurred during play are not the same as injuries incurred outside of play.

Body checks are a part of play. Fighting is not.

Play stops when there is a fight, therefore, injuries incurred from a fight are not the result of actual play.

If you have no concern for human life then furthering the interests of the league is more important.
People have also died blocking slap shots as well.

You're missing my point. Don Sanderson didn't die from fighting.
Yet the media is using the Sanderson accident as a catalyst to create "dialogue," which has subsequently given people like David Branch a reason to weed out fighting. He was interviewed in the CBC pre-game last night and he is slowly weeding it out, to prevent a backlash against doing so.

You are splitting hairs. If Don Sanderson hadn't been in a fight that night, he probably would still be alive.

This is the best NBC can do?

These two and the Penguins every Sunday?

My favorite part:

"Malkin went after Zherdev! Ovechkin goes after Malkin so Malkin goes after Zherdev"

Really PM?

Meh it was just acting and drama, in an effort to drum up some interest after the Penguins love-fest during the entire broadcast.

NBC Broadcast is terrible. Watch the Philly/Arizona game on fox. That is a proper way to do a sports broadcast.

Yes they do. However, not many people deliberately take off a crucial piece of protective equipment right before a body check.

I'm not saying fighting should be taken out of the game. In fact, I'm against it. What I'm saying is that McKenzie is right to suggest that the matter be discussed to see if there's any way to avoid something like this from happening again.

Taking out fighting entirely surely isn't the only option.

Yea, that entire section on "What is wrong with the Penguins?" just spewed Penguins love.
