That's nice. Are you also going to post when you get shelled for 12 goals and the same guy won't even look you in the eyes at the bar afterward?

Very nice. Was it a tough transition? Did you go to any goalie camps to prepare? I know a girl with a similar situation. One game our goalie didn't show up so she played as a 6th skater covering goal. It was enough of a taste that she decided to train as a goalie from then on.

dude why are you so chapped about someone being excited over their first shutout? I guess we should all be careful what we say so we don't upset the modesty police. Maybe you were the guy... who got stopped with 1:30 remaining! hmm it all makes sense now.
I hate to say it, but yes. You are the loser.

To the OP:
Congrats! Hope it's the first of many, unless I'm playing you!

Congrats HansonBro, I'd buy you a beer as well.
Actually in our league we get a free pitcher for a shutout or penalty free game.

tough as hell yes. but no i didnt go to any camps. I just bought the equipment and started playing shinny when i could and sunday mornings with a group of guys that rented ice. Then during the summer league I alternated games with a guy and now this winter I'm playing everygame on tuesdays. I cover any of his late games he has with another team as well. I also play out on a 30+ team on thursdays and have covered in net a few games here and there. There is so much hockey here I could play everyday of the week if I wanted to.

The toughest part for me early on was fighting through injuries...ankles, knees and groins. always seemed to have one or more lingering. That and the pure frustration of it all. Getting burned because of a bad angle really bugged me and I know since im only 5'9 I have to be super perfect that way. It took alot of time to put together a complete skill set that worked for me game in and game out. I could talk all day here but the best thing to do is play, play, play.

p.s my worst game was 11 goals tyvm

Congrats!

I hate shutouts. I stress out way too much, especially in the third. Even worse, shutouts usually come around when my team is dominating and only giving the opponents a couple shots a period... makes those saves that much harder.

Nope, I'd rather have a game with 1GA than a shutout.

Congratulations!

How would you rank a shutdown compared to scoring say 1, 2 or 3 goals in a game? Just thought I would ask since you got the experience as a skater as well.

Nice to know, I guess SO almost always guarantees your team a win whereas hat trick doesn't.

I found getting the shut-outs much easier. When I played goal, I played balls-to-the-wall every shot and it just happened.. helped that I was on a stacked team.

Playing forward though, was fun. After my first goal, I scored an awful lot.

Congrats on your first shutout. I've been playing goalie since I was about 7. Started out as a forward and our team would rotate a different goalie every game. Needless to say, not too many people wanted to play, and I was the best one the played so I pretty much got stuck back there. I am 21 now and playing some D3 club hockey. I got plenty of shutouts back in club and high school but in 3 years of college I haven't gotten one. Kind of makes me mad haha. Closest I cam was this year. We were up 3-0 with about 5 minutes left and the other team had a power play. Guy walks down the slot takes a shot, and it goes over my shoulder off the crossbar and in. Ended up making 35 saves, but pissed I didn't get the shutout
