Hit the nail right on the head.

Well, I mean for me to really get into what I feel the Rangers need before re acquiring Brendan Shannahan to make our offense "10 times better" would be straying away from the topic of this thread and kind of hijacking it. This is a thread about Shannahan. And it seems like many people want him back. That's fine. Nothing wrong with it. I just disagree.

Plus, it sends a message to some of the more complacent forwards on the team: stay on your toes, or this very eager future HOFer is going to take your minutes.
This. They announced Shanahan joining the Devils the day after losing 4-0 to the Atlanta Thrashers with the team embarking on a 6 game road trip. The team has been rolling since winning 5 of 6 games on the trip. The power play, which was dreadful before the trip going 0 for 7 against the Thrashers, starting potting goals immediatly after the announcement of Shanahan, probably in part because guys don't want to lose their ice time.

As a matter of fact it almost seemed like Nashville was going to kill it off. The defender might have been caught a little flat footed, concerned not only about Shannahan. The defender has to worry about so many possibilities while he's been stuck in his zone down 2 men. Ranger fans can probably imagine.

On that note, I think Shannahan is a pretty good pick up for any team who is looking for someone to improve their 5 on 3 power play.
I turned on the game...exactly 2 minutes before that play....then turned it off 2 minutes after .

Shanny faked like he was going to shoot, player went for it, he went around causing the player to drop.

The big thing is that he managed to beat the goalie to the far post considering he was staring straight at him. Total goal scorers goal.

I was duly impressed!

Funny because the Rangers had a particularly bad 5 on 3 PP last year

Yeah, people forget that it was Renney who gave Shanny all that ice time. If he had just played him on the 4th line and the 2nd PP unit, people would be saying what a great team player he was.

That said, where is the Claude Lemeuix thread?

Oh Shanny. Can't wait to see him play the Rangers. Hope the Garden crowd greets him right when he comes back to play.

Recent history suggest that he gets worn out after half a season. Remind me...what part of the season are we in?

I think we should have signed him too, but do you really want the Rangers to lose at all, let alone to the Devils?

Yes, it would be an odd opinion if he was still in his prime years...but hes not.

Keep in mind that:

A) He got injured at the 1/2 way point last year and played at <100% for 1/2 the year
B) He played on a Rangers team that couldnt score goals (25 of 30 last year), whereas the Devils are a top 10 offense so far this year (8th).
C) Even if he can only play a little over "1/2 a year", we're at the "1/2 a year" point already.
D) The Devils arent going to beat him like a rented mule like Renney did

yeeesh why are you so bitter about him? it was a pretty nice move and not a soft goal. its a 5-3. notice parise on the goalies far left and gionta in the middle. rinne had to cover all 3 of them with little help because shanny dangled around the defenseman.

agreed on all accounts. I think time will show that this was a great move by the Devils, and a dumb non-move by the Rangers.

Use the OT NHL thread since this will just turn into the Devils fans bumping this everytime he gets a point.
