For the Flyers ... only will draft players selected within 10 spots of the Flyers picks.

#1. Draft Jaromir Jagr over Mike Ricci .... the team was afraid to pull the trigger, because they weren't sure how quickly they could get Jagr from behind the iron curtain.

This would also eliminate the neceesity of trading for Lindros. The team would be built around

Forsberg - Jagr
Brind'amour - Recchi

#2. Draft Sergei Gonchar and Martin Straka in in the first round in 1992, instead of Ryan Sittler & Jason Bowen

#3. Draft Martin Havlat instead of Max Oullet ... and then disregard the Oates deal.

Penguins

I'm not touching anything pre-Mario because almost everything this organization did was a mistake, and every mistake made getting Lemieux possible. Who knew trading what ended up being the first overall pick in 1983 for two mediocre journeyman could be one of the best things that ever happened in franchise history...

But since then...
-Never make the 1992 deadline trade with Philly. It helped short term, but killed us long term. Losing Recchi and Coffey hurt much more than getting Tocchett and Wregget helped.
-Reverse the Sergei Zubov for Kevin Hatcher trade. Zubov was the missing cog that the Penguins so desperately needed for years after that trade...Hatcher was crap.
-Re-Sign Ron Francis...definitely a big mistake to let him go.
-Keep Larry Murphy around. Like Zubov he could have been the missing cog that the Penguins so desperately needed for years after that trade. No one expected him to have as many years left as he did, but he did. Dmitri Mironov was boarderline average in his short tenure in Pittsburgh.

Almost all of those moves could have turned a nice two Stanley Cup run into a potential dynasty.

All I can think of right now
Good list. I would add:

4. Because of #3, re-sign Hatcher
5. Don't sign Young or Turgeon.

I'll do it anyway, even though everyone already knows how it'll turn out. It's actually really easy seeing that we hear about if everyday on our board.

Don't trade Bertuzzi, Mccabe and the J. Ruutu pick for Linden.
Don't trade Luongo and Jokinen for Kvasha and Parrish.
Draft Heatley 1st overall since we already have a stud goaltender prospect.
Win the lottery in order to draft Kovalchuk, and keep him and Chara.
Don't waive Wiemer.
Magically have enough money to sign all these players and still make the moves since then that we've made.
Hire Keenan to light fire under Jokinen.

Isles look like:
Bertuzzi-Jokinen-Kovalchuk
Heatley-Peca-Hunter
Wiemer-Scatchard-Blake
Asham-Bates-Weinhandl

Hamrlik-Chara
Jonsson-Aucoin
Mccabe-Niinimaa

Luongo
Whoever

edit: i'd also like to point out, that while this is amusing to think about, it is pointless to dwell on. so if we could avoid this turning into how stupid milbury is and how miserable isles fans should feel, it would be appreciated.

For the Leafs in the past ten years:

-1995: avoid Jeff Ware, instead we pick Petr Sykora
-Never bring back Wendel Clark and Mathieu Schneider, keep Jonsson, draft Luongo.
-1998: pass on Nik Antropov, draft any one of Gagne, Richards, Fisher, Tanguay, Kalinin, Gomez or anybody who can skate.
-1999: pass on Luca Cereda, draft anybody else
-keep Modin
-keep Jason Smith
-avoid Dmitri Khristich and keep Steve Sullivan
-Berard injury never happened
-2001: instead of drafting Karel Pilar, we draft Fedor Tyutin or an actual prospect

That way the Leafs would have Sykora, Luongo, Jonsson, Berard, Richards, Modin, Sullivan. Geez, that would have made for a pretty decent supporting cast and core.

Howard Baldwin never buys the Penguins, nor comes within 500 miles of Mellon Arena.

The rest I can live with.
