Spot on. Why minimize that Cote just steps up and gets beaten down.

i think he does really well against guys his size. hes definitely one of the better middleweight in the league. and the fact that hell go against bigger guys i think gets him a respect and gives the guys a boost unto itself.

I wish we still had Brahear or a heavy weight as it is a perfect fit with philly but we cant afford to pay a top HW with our salary cap issue.

Brashear Larague Parros any of those would be awesome.

I'd like a better heavy weight, but in today's game you work with what you have and what you can afford

I kinda agree with some that the 'fighter' is a dying breed in todays NHL. It is different then it was 20 years ago and more. There are plenty of mediocre fighters but not many real scary ones, and back then they served a hell of a purpose. I mean if you have seen when Clarke played, he was not much of a fighter. So when a guy would nail him or do something to him the rest of the team thought was crap those guys would stick up for him and beat the piss out of him before Clarke could even get in the guys face. If that happens now there is a little scrum and some smelling of gloves but that is about it. they would protect the leaders.

Do I think the fighter helps with momentum absolutely but these days they are "six in one, a half dozen in the other".

Our situation is improved by calling up an AHLer (talented) and paying one tough guy. Take Cote and Asham's grip and pay one fighter.

*this is hindsight stuff, though.

With each bout, he looks more and more like Grimace. He is purple, and loses all matches. Come on. Some of you defenders have to be on my side by now! Thank god we won tonight (It was Atl and we had Nitty, so it is a lock), but both fighters lost at home again.

how many people do you think actually care about a prestaged fight? boulton asked him 2 times to go so he obliged.dude. fighting doesnt make or break a game unless you can take their top defensemen or top scorer off the ice for 5.

If this team is going to drop the gloves as much as they do they REALLY need someone who doesn't get molested every single ****ing time. Someone needs to take Cote out back, behind the barn, and put him down.

All you need is an enforcer who'll play for nothing, not get totally killed and won't mind sitting the playoffs out. cote is tex cobb

In fairness to Cote...I think he's way more skilled a fighter than Tex. I don't know if I've ever seen a human being with a thicker skull than Cobb though. That beating he took from Larry was the stuff that legends are made of. The comparison is not bad though.

I agree with your post as long as Jones is taken out back as well.

Frankly, I'd rather see Ovechkin Richards II, but that isn't going to happen either.

Lol, I love this, it's so true.

And to the OP, sorry but Brashear isn't/wasn't the SECOND best fighter in the league, he was THE BEST and still is even at age 37. He's probably the best fighter ever in hockey because not only is the be biggest, toughest and best puncher but he is also a decent player. He's not a liability when he's on the ice. He can take a regualr shift and isn't just a 4th line goon.

Well I like this too but when all three of them get beat up in the same game they don't exactly strike fear into your opponents and then you end up having guys like Gagne getting run causing a dislocated shoulder. If we had Brashear and someone ran Gagne that way Brash would have beaten the guy into a bloody pulp. The fear of getting really hurt by someone like Brashear keeps guys from intentionally trying to hurt guys like Gagne and Carter.

In my opinion Riley Cote can hold his own vs anybody else in the league other than those two. Which if you ask me, is just fine, so we dont need a "better" enforcer. I'm not saying he can whoop anybody, just saying most of his other fights arent as one sided as the fights tonight vs brash. Almost all his fights are usually a pretty good tilt in general which gets the team fired up, but the fact that he never steps down from ANYONE including those 2 is what it's all about.

There's one thing im sure of though: Cote is one of the favorites in the locker room and he's respected by everybody on the team for what he does for them. So you can sit there at your computer and call him a "joke" all you want, but youre WAY off.

You should change your screen name. QWERTY is a lable that pedafiles use a lot and that's just wrong. I have kids and honestly, it's just not funny. Child pornography is not something to joke about. This is a line that shouldn't be crossed and if you won't change it then the mods should either make you or ban you. I don't know if you knew about this or not but honestly if you did and were trying to be funny, it's just in bad taste. I've tried to just let it go but it's really disturbing so I'm asking you to please come up with a new on. Thank you.

haha We both know that'd never happen.
I agree with everything you have said....fighting certainly does not have the purpose and effect it used to back in the day....if it did there wouldnt be all these cheap shots and checks to the head

If it takes a fight to get you pumped up at that level of hockey, you dont belong.

Ask yourself that same question.

Your remark is misconstrued to my point. A regular fight set up like most of them in the nhl are diluted. Almost anyone will drop the glove and for most of the time its not even appropriate. Dropping the gloves every time a hard hit is thrown will diminish the value of a good fight. And hence make them “ passé”

Please read bernsteins book on that matter. Also, Copernicus studied at Jagiellonian University

Stanley cup champion Carolina hurricaines 2005/2006 “ enforcer list/ number of fights”:
Jesse Boulerice 5, Mike Commodore 4, Craig Adams 3, Chad LaRose 1, Danny Richmond 1, Eric Staal 1, Oleg Tverdovsky 1, Doug Weight 1
Last I checked, it don’t take a Heavyweight to win a cup.

Wow you really need to re read my post again and tell me where I threw an insult at you. Was it the attention deficit refrence? Your details and summation are suspect at best. Even your post seems to hint that you are in highschool yourself. Of suffering from rejected genius syndrome. Either way, in the nhl of today cote is fine where he is. We don’t need anyone else.
The Wings never have a heavyweight either.....

The so called enforcers on each team are supposed give their teams a shot of emotion and energy at certain times..... however when that enforcer is constantly being ragdolled its demoralizing.
