Which Defenseman has thus far been more dissapointing from the perception of fans? Dion Phaneuf or Brent Burns? For Dissapointed, I mean couldn't mount to the high expectations. Or has had a year where we know he can be better.
Brent Burns for me. I was expecting a 50pt season from this guy, but Lemaire has really screwed around with his #1 defenseman. You don't decide to make your defenseman a forward for a while, and then keep switching him back. Maybe that technique is fine for bottom pairing or reserve defenseman, but not your #1 guy..
His 35pt, -11 pace really disappoints me. He hasen't even looked that comfortable defensively lately either..
At least Phaneuf is still on pace for a 54pt season..It does look like he regressed a little bit offensively..Only 4 goals on the season!? He was getting better defensively too, but that seems to have stopped as well. He's a minus player, whos edge seems to be gone, and his booming shot is simply not as effective as usual. Definately a downseason for the big D.
