Goalie Marek Schwarz, who left the St. Louis Blues organization earlier this week to return to the Czech Republic, has officially signed with Extraliga club BK Mlada Boleslav

I remember the commentators during that draft were dumbfounded when Schwarz fell to 17. Apparently he didn't fall far enough.

He still has time to turn it around. Maybe he needs a chance with another organization. Schwarz has just fallen down the depth chart in STL. If the Blues are willing to cut him loose, I'm sure their will be teams out there willing to take a chance.

This isn't a case where the goaltender was buried in the depth chart. The kid had ample opportunity to progress and regressed at each level. To be fair the defense playing in front of him hasn't been stellar but he was playing (and not well I gather) in the ECHL when he left.

He is still young and he still could make an impact in the NHL but those are big ifs

It's getting to the point where before a goalie turns 26, teams shouldn't even be interested. I mean, yeah Carey Price would be awesome to have on your team, or a Martin Brodeur for what seems like forever. But the very best teams in the league this season have guys like Tim Thomas and Ty Conklin manning the nets for important games.

It's such a volatile position, and quite frankly the idea of spending a first rounder on a goaltender seems ludicrous to me these days. Of course, the team I root for went one further and picked one No. 1 overall.

But I think Ken Holland is right in going year to year with his goaltending situation. I don't agree with all of his philosophies but I am definitely on board with the goaltending. Of course, he too picked a goalie in Round 1 last summer so there you go.

I remeber when I thought he was the goaltender of the future for the Blues. He is still young but i don't see an NHL team taking a shot at him for at least a few years.

The Blues don't really have deep goaltending. He could have been the backup last season if he could have simply beaten out Toivenen, but he couldnt and that is a pretty clear indication of his regression. The Blues had to go out and get Mason in the offseason because he had regressed so much.

He had only gotten into 5 games in the ECHL because he couldnt beat out an undrafted FA in Lamareux(sp?). Although Lamareux is setting the ECHL on fire this year.
