More on the Lecavalier to Montreal Saga!

El Chouin, a poster on CHFANS.com, who has been confirmed to have VERY solid sources, has already called a few moves if im not mistaken. He has been keeping us informed on this whole Lecavalier saga, and yesterday he posted this very interesting message so i decided to post it on here..

"call me gary" Gary Bettman. Je connais le ieu et l'heure de la dite rencontre, mais je vais en rester là, je ne veut surtout pas nuire aux négos! Désolé. Je sais que c'est BIG, mais je n'écris jamais ici pour rien! Je vous tiens au courant des développements."

Translated in English..
Tonight, Thursday Jan. 22nd, Lecavalier and his wife are going out for supper with Brisebois and wife. From what he has learned, the french players from MOntreal have been told to "sell" the team to Vinny. A visit in Brossard is expected as well as a visit into the Bell Centre dressing rooms, before anyone else with a stall that has the name V. Lecavalier 4, between Kovalev and Komisarek. The Canadiens management cannot talk with Lecavalier without being accused of pilfering. A face to face meeting is expected between Len Barrie, Oren Kouleas, Georges and Foster Gillet, Bob Gainey and Brian Lawton as well as guess who...."call me Gary" Gary Bettman. I know the location and time of the said meeting, but i will leave it at that, i certainly do not want to ruin the negociations! Sorry. I know this is BIG, but as you know i don't write here for nothing! I will keep you guys posted as i hear it..

El Chouin

I'm pretty sure bringing him into the Canadiens dressing room (even in the practice facility) would be considered tampering. The idea that his name is already on a stall -- using a retired number no less -- is pretty ridiculous.

Thats what I said what this whole story first started. I just couldn't see Tampa Bay giving their franchise player away. In a way though it is possible.

I mean a lot of people can see Atlanta giving up their Kovalchuk. Tampa probably would give up their Lecavalier if they get what they want in return.

LOL and who 'leaked' this story to him? brisebois?
not only that but it is MASSIVELY disrespectful to a hab icon like beliveau to be putting up his number in the stall. in fact it's ludicrous

Why would they give Lecavalier the number 4 when it's been retired?

The thing is Beliveau is so classy, that if the Habs DID trade for Vinny, Beliveau would offer up #4 to him.

The visits and stall things...you guys...it's for the ASG.

For CHRIST'S SAKE....

Asides, this is probably BS.

As far as no. 4 goes and Beliveau giving it to him, yeah, that would be a great idea. Put the pressure cooker under a 2000 tons vise.

Not an option, we retire numbers, not honour them like the Leafs.

The #4 is there right now for the All-Star game, no doubt. Komisarek and Kovalev are both in the All-Star game, so it makes sense.

Why do we have to "massage" the Vinny Lecavalier clan again?

I thought he made it clear that, in the event of a trade, Montreal would be on the top of his list.

Shouldn't we give a footrub to Tampa's GM instead?

I don't get your point?

He can wear it in the All-Star game, but never as a Hab.

So why are you gutting your roster during a winning season again? Nobody seems to have answered that during this whole saga.

I wasn't so much fighting your post, yours was just the one I quoted.

My point is the reason "V. Lecavalier #4" is hanging in the Bell Centre locker room right now is because of the All-Star game.. Kovalev and Komisarek are obviously beside his name (maybe in an attempt to persuade him to come to MTL) or maybe just by luck.

The article doesn't say they are giving him #4, it just says they are going to show him his stall with his name and number.. which is obviously for the All-Star game.. but maybe to give him the feeling that his name could hang in this locker room all the time.

Define gutting. I think most agree if the price is too high then its a no. I think most people are hoping we can get him for prospects and maybe some roster players who are under performing.

How's adding a superstar gutting?

So far this season:

0-2-1 vs NJ.

1-2-1 vs BOS.

1-2 vs WSH.

There's your answer if it ever does happen. The Habs have shown they are not a true contender in the East...

I was just going to ask the same thing. A superb player like Vinny is a minus to add to your locker room?

These stories seem to be driven more by where Vinny is from rather than his ability. Plus when you're trading for a guy making 7.7 for the next 11 years on a rebuilding team, he's going to cost the farm and throw a major wrench in anyones payroll.

If you have to trade away half the team for it, then it can be.
