These stories seem to be driven more by where Vinny is from rather than his ability. Plus when you're trading for a guy making 7.7 for the next 11 years on a rebuilding team, he's going to cost the farm and throw a major wrench in anyones payroll.
Actually most top end talents that have been traded in the last few years went for peanuts.
As for the wrench in your payroll, Detroit, Bruins and other good teams have at least 1 player costing them so much and they seem to cope. Keep in mind that Higgins + Plek will make at least 6 mil next year. Add those two + dandy and you just made your 7.7 mil.
El Chouin, a poster on CHFANS.com, who has been confirmed to have VERY solid sources, has already called a few moves if im not mistaken. He has been keeping us informed on this whole Lecavalier saga, and yesterday he posted this very interesting message so i decided to post it on here..
"call me gary" Gary Bettman. Je connais le ieu et l'heure de la dite rencontre, mais je vais en rester là, je ne veut surtout pas nuire aux négos! Désolé. Je sais que c'est BIG, mais je n'écris jamais ici pour rien! Je vous tiens au courant des développements."
Translated in English..
Tonight, Thursday Jan. 22nd, Lecavalier and his wife are going out for supper with Brisebois and wife. From what he has learned, the french players from MOntreal have been told to "sell" the team to Vinny. A visit in Brossard is expected as well as a visit into the Bell Centre dressing rooms, before anyone else with a stall that has the name V. Lecavalier 4, between Kovalev and Komisarek. The Canadiens management cannot talk with Lecavalier without being accused of pilfering. A face to face meeting is expected between Len Barrie, Oren Kouleas, Georges and Foster Gillet, Bob Gainey and Brian Lawton as well as guess who...."call me Gary" Gary Bettman. I know the location and time of the said meeting, but i will leave it at that, i certainly do not want to ruin the negociations! Sorry. I know this is BIG, but as you know i don't write here for nothing! I will keep you guys posted as i hear it..
I wasn't so much fighting your post, yours was just the one I quoted.
My point is the reason "V. Lecavalier #4" is hanging in the Bell Centre locker room right now is because of the All-Star game.. Kovalev and Komisarek are obviously beside his name (maybe in an attempt to persuade him to come to MTL) or maybe just by luck.
The article doesn't say they are giving him #4, it just says they are going to show him his stall with his name and number.. which is obviously for the All-Star game.. but maybe to give him the feeling that his name could hang in this locker room all the time.
I'm pretty sure bringing him into the Canadiens dressing room (even in the practice facility) would be considered tampering. The idea that his name is already on a stall -- using a retired number no less -- is pretty ridiculous.
Lecavalier, as a member of the Eastern Conference All-Stars, has a stall in the Montreal Canadiens dressing room.
Because Kovalev and Komisarek are also All-Stars, they will be using their stalls. It appears Vinnie has been placed in between. And for the All-Star game, Vinny can wear whatever number he likes.
