2009 All Star Game

Is anyone else watching this crap?

This is the first all star weekend i actually sat down to watch, and apparently I never missed much by not watching it before..

The fastest skater competition is dumb. dumb.
The breakaway challenge, pathetic. I waited all day for that, and was very disappointed.

Now the Young stars game is on. I like this idea but theres been three goals now that I missed because they were doing stupid ass interviews in the middle of a breakaway. They should cancel this weekend all together and give the players the week off with their families.
oh, and It also pissed me off to see them announce the damn Canadian players last, who gives a **** if its in their home, they get special treatment? ahhhhh. rant off

What do you guys think of this crap?

I watched some of the skills stuff, but missed most of the rookie game. How'd Doughty do?

He missed by a hair on one breakaway, then later on scored on another.

I dislike all this junk.

I think the Red Wings do things the right way. Make sure their players get to REST. Not run around at some stupid "all-star" game that no one cares about.

I just wish our guys weren't there.

Brown and Doughty are hardly working hard this weekend. Participating in light skating, no contact games is better for them than sitting around for a week. This is rest for them. Any hockey player will tell you that missing more than a day of skating makes them feel out of shape the next time they're on the ice.

Actually the Red Wings usually represent. Lidstrom has been there i think around 7 times, so i don't blame him for taking a break. Datsyuk 3 years i think. I agree players shouldn't be forced to go, but i guess the only reason the rest of the league gets a rest is because of that all star game.

It is just fluff and basically it is for the fans. But it looks like the players enjoy it. They bring the family, and they are definitely not looking taxed out there. Brown took one shot on a shootout, and missed and was done. That was it for him tonight.

Doughty looked to be very casual on his game and he is done. He had a nice goal but thats it, he can rest now. Luc was the coach and he was exerting the most energy of the rookie team.

the NHL should get rid of it. That or make it their outdoor game each year, have the GM's or sport writers pick the real stars. If a team doesn't have an All star then better luck next year.

Only a little of it was actually good, the rest was crap and fluff. Versus is the worst sporting broadcaster ever. They kept showing replays while the game was going and missed like four different goals because they wanted us to see stuff we had already seen.

The only good parts in my opinion was the Ovechkin/Malkin bit during the breakaway competition, Chara breaking the record for hardest slapshot, the Youngstars game (despite replays), and the final shootout at the end where they were talking to Savard the whole time.

As far as Kings players go. Doughty flubbed his first breakaway but scored on his second. It was the only goal that they missed because of a replay that they actually went back and revealed a replay of what they missed. The others are lost. Dustin didn't compete in any event and was sorta sitting around watching and messing around the whole time. He and Parise looked like they got a long real well. The only thing Dustin did in the end was compete in the shootout. He tried a small Forsberg one-handed move that failed and that was it for him.

Overall the music was terrible (opening music was horrendous and for the rest of the event they just played movie soundtracks over the loud speakers), the events were poorly covered, the competitions were a joke, and it didn't have a very good feel to it. The only good thing was seeing some of the players goof off and play around, but very little actual skill was flaunted or exhibited.

I was out but got the bar I was at to turn on the festivities. the breakaway challenge was a joke. Every player tried to do something they thought would wow the crowd, and they all failed miserably. So much so, that Ovechkin with a stupid routine, slapping a puck with two sticks, one in each hand, back and forth while wearing a goofy hat and sunglasses was deemed the winner, scoring on only one of his four or five attempts.

I actually thought St. Louis was better and more creative.

The rest of the stuff was pure fluff, except the young studs game which was fun to watch, if only because the guys are so good with puck possessiona nd passing that given that much time and space you can see how easily they can score and dish the puck around.

Tomorrow should be more fun to watch, but I will have to agree that Versus, as a network, sucks in its coverage and production for such an event. Bring back ESPN for hockey broadcasts and save us from these talking knuckle heads!

Could they think of a hitting competition so Brown would take the win?

The "Breakaway Challenge" was, yet again, a failure. The NHL wants so badly to have an answer to the Dunk competition and the Home Run Derby but they have to face up to the fact that the isolated skills of an NHL player are never going to be sexy. Basketball and baseball are geared toward flashy individual performance; hockey is not and trying to pretend that it is will yield nothing but embarassment.

Does anyone really care about the dunk contest or the homerun derby anymore?

I don't.

All Star Game

jeeezzz.......

i try to watch the All Star game for 10 minutes now.
That is my first one after a couple of years... but i have to turn off.
Man, that is boring
It's a show for former Habs and no body and no defense Hockey.

I think i was to young as i watched the last ASG and never realized how stupid that is.

Even that is not realy a All Star Game.
Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom are not here and i have to watch guys like Komisarek, Kovalev, Robidas...

And as much as i love Brown, he doesn't belong to a All Star Game right now.
He is a bodycontact role player, a true Powerforward and has to play now Figureskaters....

damn it....

Dear NHL put the All Star Game at the End of the Season, propably after the Stanley Cup Finals and let the people watch true Hockey during the Season...
It's stupid to break the season 7 Days for a single Game

But yeah I think it's ridiculous to put the game in the middle of the season...they should move it to the end. I want to see regular season games right now, especially since Kings have been much better offensively in the last 2 games.

To be honest half of the rosters don't belong there including Brown and most if not all of thier own teams representatives. All star game needs to be renamed to corporation convention IMO.
