A two or three year deal would have been nice...ah well.

I didn't follow how well he did last year so I could be off the wall here, but that seems like a little much, I mean Gagne is making 2.6?

Yeah and the past 2 years Gagne's been pretty bad.Hecht had 7 more points then Gagne while playing 20 less games. It's widely known around here that if Hecht stays healthy he can score 60 points+.2.1 is a great deal for a guy like Hecht.

What the hell, why is Darcy signing everyone to 1 year deals?
I can see everyone else only getting a 1 year deal but Hecht deserves atleast a 2 or 3 yr. deal. Maybe Hecht only eanted a 1 yr. deal. All I know is Kalinin and Briere better be locked-up long term.

Hecht is the most consistent and polished player on the Sabres' roster (IMHO).

My guess is that most players only want a 1 year deal in case they will have UFA rights if they ever decide on a new collective bargining agreement. That will give them more options after next season.

Gagne is one of the most overrated Hockey Players ever witnessed by Man.

True. He doesnt get recognized by hardly anyone for such a great job he does. He quietly puts up quality offensive numbers, is not a defensive liability, and is an all around accountable player. Good signing Darcy, I guess a couple more good ones will make up for keeping Campbell and Pyatt.

I think it was the Sabres choice to make it a 1 year deal. They could have forced a 2 year deal in arbitration. As good as Hecht was last season, he only played in 64 games. And he only played in 49 games the previous season. I think they want to see if he can stay healthy before making a long-term commitment that could become a burden under a salary cap.

That would be my guess as well. It definatly has something to do with the new CBA. Anyways good move signing Hecht.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet....

According to eurohockey.net, Hecht has signed on to play with Adler Mannheim in Germany in the event of a lockout.

Also mentioned is the confirmed transfer of Sekera to Owen Sound for next season.
