The Skills was awful. The game was worse. They need to change things up in the worst way. Excellent first steps in suspending players that don't wanna show up.

The biggest problem is when you take the hitting and defense out of the game, you don't have hockey.

The skills contest was unwatchable TV with guys not really listening to Doc and Brian and large periods of dead air that not even Doc could fill.

While I agree, hockey can still be fun to watch without hitting (especially in this kind of setting). The lack of defense and lack of caring is what makes it brutal. I'm sure we all enjoy playing in our adult non-checking leagues. Except we all try hard and try our best to play good defense and such. These guys weren't doing that. It's like that guy who hangs all game waiting for the breakaway pass and then when the puck gets turned over he just takes his sweet time to get back into the defensive zone.

the game wasn't as bad as the Breakaway challenge when I was cringing from A to Z.
Lets drop the gimmicks.

Glad I missed this one. Even the highlights they showed on my local newscast this morning were boring.

I thought the game sucked, but I did like Savard's commentary. Turco mic'ed up last year was funnier, but Savard was also great. Really wish the Rangers never traded him

There were some great all star games from the 1980's. No hitting but it was taken very seriously. If you get the chance watch the '85 all star game. A classic.

Mic up Ovechkin and you'd probably win an Emmy for best comedic performance. (If there is such a thing )

Frankly, listening to Legace flop around last year during the game was hilarious. Savard seems like a nice guy, but wasn't nearly as funny.

I don't think many people want to watch it though.

My point is, if you're going to take out hitting and slapshots, what are you really show casing by having guys like Souray and Chara there?

Maybe I'm in the minority but I actually thought the game was okay. Better than most all-star games in recent memory. It had it's dull stretches but there were some exciting moments, as well.

I missed the skills competition because of work, but from the highlights it looked like a real snooze fest. I know they're trying to make it like the NBA dunk contest and stuff, and that is a good idea, but it seems like they are failing miserably in that regard.

And the dunk contest has been stale for the better part of 10 years now.

Props and substitute goalies and voting by the fans? What exactly is this showcasing?

Not too surprised about Henrik's performance considering he gives up 5 or 6 every time in that building

I was able to watch it on that link yesterday (I didn't see it live because I saw the Killers at the Garden..excellent show). Thankfully I didn't see VS' telecast - CBC did a very good job with it. Unfortunately I think they might have restricted it to just Canadian viewers.

I could care less that Henrik gave up 6 goals. All that matters to be is that he didn't get injured. I'm glad he was able to experience an all-star game and his performance in the elimination shootout Saturday was very good.

The actual game..meh, it's an all-star game. The end was exciting, it actually resembled a hockey game after JBo's goal and in OT. Plus Thomas was very good on the penalty kill.
