Conboy leaves MSU

I was in Michigan today and a sports talk station was talking about this. I looked it up on youtube when I got home.

Looks like Conboy really suckerpunched a Michigan player (Kampfer) from behind after he laid a hard hit on his teammate near the end of the Michigan vs. Michigan State game on the weekend. The punch is being somewhat overshadowed by the other Michigan State player (Tropp) slashing Kampfer in the neck.

I can't condone Conboy's clothesline, but he at least tried to protect the player on the ground from a second axe-chop by pushing away his teammate .

Lets hope he learns a lesson from this. I'll start being concerned if he repeats something similar.

I'm just wondering how much damage a "sucker punch" can have when they wear full shields?
I think if anything it was a shove from behind into the boards....

Is Tropp crazy? What Conboy did was bad but at least he pushed Tropp away to stop him from killing the guy. Tropp tried to push back too.

here a quote from another board

Quote:
I grew up playing with Andrew (and his older brothers Tom and Tim) in Rosemount. He is a funny, easy-going, charismatic guy who turns to Mr. Hyde when he hits the ice.

He has always been a handful for anyone. If Drew decides to do something, watch out. In his freshman year in highschool, he dismantled a kids teeth from our rival school. He plays with a grit rarely seen, and he will remain a force for years to come.

I would be surprised to see Gainey make this move... He will probably let the kid get the suspension and endure it.

It s*** to see an incident like this. I really think Conboy has a chance to be an NHL player, and a good enforcer, but he needs to have some respect and know there is a line that he must not cross.

WTH were they thinking?

Tropp de Con, boy!!!

Edit: Seriously though, wouldn't be surprised to see them suspended for the rest of the season.

I think Conboy wasnt that bad. He was sticking up for his teammate, which is a good thing. However, it looks bad cause he was from behind.. Probably should have come in front of him before hitting, but I don't think it was anything dirty-minded. That axe chop by Tropp however, boy that is bad. And conboy did push him away so taht he wouldn't do it again.

I hope I read well into that. Cause Conboy seems to have good promise to be a Chris Neil type of guy in the NHL and this kind of incident is never a good thing.

Terrible incident, but from what it looks like, in a few years, you won't be hearing Habs fans talking about Lucic, but Bruins' fans talking about Andrew Conboy.

You don't consider punching a guy in the side of the head and taking another shot when hes down dirty minded?

Someone on the team that other players might actually be afraid of, is a good thing.
