The biggest problem is when you take the hitting and defense out of the game, you don't have hockey.
While I agree, hockey can still be fun to watch without hitting (especially in this kind of setting). The lack of defense and lack of caring is what makes it brutal. I'm sure we all enjoy playing in our adult non-checking leagues. Except we all try hard and try our best to play good defense and such. These guys weren't doing that. It's like that guy who hangs all game waiting for the breakaway pass and then when the puck gets turned over he just takes his sweet time to get back into the defensive zone.
Maybe I'm in the minority but I actually thought the game was okay. Better than most all-star games in recent memory. It had it's dull stretches but there were some exciting moments, as well.
I missed the skills competition because of work, but from the highlights it looked like a real snooze fest. I know they're trying to make it like the NBA dunk contest and stuff, and that is a good idea, but it seems like they are failing miserably in that regard.
I was able to watch it on that link yesterday (I didn't see it live because I saw the Killers at the Garden..excellent show). Thankfully I didn't see VS' telecast - CBC did a very good job with it. Unfortunately I think they might have restricted it to just Canadian viewers.
I could care less that Henrik gave up 6 goals. All that matters to be is that he didn't get injured. I'm glad he was able to experience an all-star game and his performance in the elimination shootout Saturday was very good.
The actual game..meh, it's an all-star game. The end was exciting, it actually resembled a hockey game after JBo's goal and in OT. Plus Thomas was very good on the penalty kill.
