What would your Habs 'shakeup' be?

Most posters believe that the Habs need some sort of shakeup to light a fire in this underachieving Habs team. What should the shakeup be? There's no way Gainey fires Carbo.

I'm thinking a possible shakeup move could be to trade Kovy (maybe for a defenceman). I know Kovy's our most talented forward and a true gamebreaker but his effort isn't always consistent, he can be frustrating to watch and coach, he doesn't always use his head, he takes some selfish penalties, and I question whether he makes his linemates better. I also think we have enough leadership to fill his void. If he is traded, it should be to a Western Conference team (Kovy to Minny for Zidlicky?) so that we don't run into an inspired Kovy in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

I love watching Kovy and he certainly has top drawer talent. However, I honestly don't think the team will be any worse without him, and I think his subtraction might make us more of a TEAM.

Any other ideas for a 'shakeup'?

Have Carey Price get into a fist fight with the team physician.

Could be something small... scratch a player for a game or two...let the kids play. BG doesn't have that visible passion, hard to tell what he's feeling.

can we trade kovalev to the eastern all star team? he seemed to play inspired hockey when there was no defense.

It's time to pull the trigger on something big. We have the assets to "overpay" for a marquee player. Bob must have 2 or 3 offers on the table and is weighing them... Now it's time to make it happen so that the team can build some chemistry for the last stretch...

Actually sit players that suck and not the ones who previously had good games.

new NHL = no trades.

Only sellers and buyers make deals and theyre never that big, unless theyre bottom dwellers selling off their UFA's to the highest bidder.

Everyone is afraid to trade and GM's are handcuffed to the CAP.

Its sad.

Its gonna have to come from within. A call-up, a benching, a practice scrap, Downey's potatoes...anything.

Any word yet on when guys like Tanguay and Laraque will come back? That might give Carbonneau more forward options to work with...scratch the floaters. Making trade is possible, but tough - sellers are probably unlikely to pull the trigger until close to the deadline.

It all depends on who the target player(s) is(are). The higher the talent, the more you'll have to pay.

Koivu, Kovalev, Higgins, Tanguay (although injured I know), both Kostitsyn, Plekanec, D'Agostini... they're all in a very similar mold. They can show grit at times, but it's not in their nature. Nothing wrong with that, but you need a better balance in your line-up.

We need skills/grit ala Iginla, Morrow, Getzlaf, Perry, Cole, Smyth, Doan, Bernier, Brown, Arnott, Langenbrunner, Tkachuk, Guerin, Heatley, Hartnell, Malone... you know, guys with who play like Kostopoulos but with a lot more skills.

I heard a good stat on the Florida broadcast
Kovy when Habs win 1ppg
Kovy when Habs lose 0.5 ppg
I think he's more important than most people here give him credit for.
Love him or hate him you can't trade a fan favourite (voted starter and capitan of the the allstar)
We're stuck with him now.

Exactly... we have a large quantity of "good" players, but we don't have any "great" players. We've stocked up long enough and we've got enough depth on the farm that we can overpay to get a star player like this. One player won't make this team a sudden contender but this team lacks gamebreakers who can step up in games like tonight where 90% of the team didn't show up at all.

Trade
Girlekanec for Chris Neil,
Halak and a 2nd for Boogaard,
Tanguay, Laraque and 1st in '10 for Lucic,
Breeze-by and Dandouillon for Colton Orr's left arm
Sign Conboy and Tropp to a deal with performance bonus(depending on the number of people they can hurt per year).

The habs should trade for Kaberle, it will definitely help their team. Something like Higgins, 1st and McDonaugh. Or maybe 2 out of those 3 and add a lesser piece (even though their 1st will be pretty low).

What's that? Oh you have to be a Hab fan to post in this thread? Oh, yeah, I knew that I was just ... just passing through the neighbourhood ... and *covers Leaf jersey with sweater* yeah alright I'll be seeing you later then.

An Edmonton fan favorite who wore #99 was once traded fresh after a Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy performance. We're not stuck with anyone who doesn't have a NTC.
