Alright this is my first post, but i've been reading these posts for the past 5-6 years. So I definitely know whats going on here. Most of you "posters" definitely have rational and subjective opinions, and its very interesting to read your thoughts the habs! And yes these past 4 games have been a struggle without a doubt. I know many of you live and breathe with the Habs, like myself. We are the most passionate fans in the league bar none, and I love it! But it comes to a point, where we have to let the frustration and anger just chill for a couple minutes. Tonight SUCKED! worst loss of the season by far.
But seriously... fire the coach? rebuild? pleks and subban for cole??? are you high?
We are in a slump, and as far as being a playoff team, cleary we are and I do believe we have the potential to do some damage in the post season, contender... time will tell on that. Clearly we lack character, and our D...well tonight made it very obvious were hurtin on the backend. We are just missing some pieaces to the puzzle, and hopefully Gainey can make some moves and make us a bonafide contender. Were on the edge tho. Personally I have feeling something will go down in the next little bit, just speculation tho.
We know what this team is made of, all we need to add is a bit of grit and change the gameplan a bit. Attack the center of the ice once you enter the neutral zone. If I have to watch this team cylce for 45 seconds and lose the puck one more time I may kick an infant.
All the team needs is a bit of grit in the top 6. Plausible choices being Keith Tkatchuk maybe? Eric Cole is softer then most think, Tuomo Ruutu, going off the board to Trent Hunter may not be bad either.
Add a guy like that to the roster and change the gameplan a bit and the team will get back on track.
The next issue is picking up a cheap 4th D-man. Derek Morris is good, but aquiring him wouldn't leave much else for anyone. Maybe a guy like Stephane Robidas out of Dallas. He'd be a great fit.
A team with the additions of a top 6 powerforward and a reliable 4th D-man with the play style a bit altered would win a lot of games.

This isn't panicing, this is seeing the team have the same needs since the end of last season. This season is supposed to be our big centenial and we couldn't beat half the teams in the league in a playoff series right now.
This team needs to be tougher, that is the big thing. It is funny seeing a guy like BG who played like he did to have a team as weak as this one is. This may be the new NHL, that doesn't mean a weak, fast team will always win. You need to have guys who can crash the net aswell as guys who are skilled and can get the puck to the net.
Currently, we have guys who are skilled and that is it. No grit.
if the problems could be all solved with one or even two major trades, i would be supportive of it. but to be competitive in the playoffs i see ths team need at least to get a big defenseman and a couple of power forwards(both with leadership qualities and grit).trading for this is sure to cost a lot
the one positive thing i see is the up and coming players. im still optimistic about next year cause of the 10 (or 11?) UFAs that there are. to me this is a second chance to fix the problem that are obvious. if gainey make the right moves, next year could be better.
Is it really "just a slump"? We started the season 8-1-1; since then, we're 19-14-5. The latter record projects to 41-30-11 and 93 points over an entire year. This kind of record has, since the lockout, typically landed the team that has it in the 7-10 range in its conference.
Basically, my point is that the Habs would be a borderline playoff team right now if it hadn't been for the great start that they had. That might be fine for some other teams, but for this team in this year, it's really not acceptable. Maybe the hot start can continue to cover for the Habs' poor play and get us into the playoffs, but once April gets here, we're going to get eaten alive.

We started exactly the way we played last year... what happend then is mystery..... I'd blame the coaching...

I really believe this is just a slump, Price can play better forsure! Our forwards...well i'm interested to see if they can pull there **** together and play with some heart. I really think gainey will address our D sooner then later. Don't forget this is our first 4 game losing in nearly 2 years. the next two weeks will be interesting and will give us an indication of what this team is made of. I'm not qutting on them or this year yet. I've seen alot of potential, just more execution is needed at a more constant level.
But will this be like any other year where this team is struggling until realizing in March that they need to win? I just hope by then they're not fighting to get back into a playoff spot, rather that they're trying to move up to 4-5. Right now, with all these losses, it's looking like a dogfight to stay above 7th seed.

And those last three games of the season against NYR, Boston, and Pittsburgh aren't (or rather, won't be) the best opportunities to make up points...
It wouldn't be so bad if they were losing by just some bad luck, but were putting in a top level effort. Fact is they have been losing to teams they are better then all because they don't even care, no effort in their game at all. Thats the problem. The team we have will win most their games if they bust their balls, it has nothing to do with lack of grit(though obviously more grit couldn't hurt..).
Let's hope that coming back into a crazy hockey atmosphere will give us a well needed wake up call. The next few games, even the upcoming road games are ALL in loud and full buildings.
The last 4 games have been played in half empty mostly quiet buildings and the team has gone zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Yes that's the problem the building have been too quiet. Darn southern teams put poor Guy's team to sleep, how dare they.
When will Habs fans realize this team player over it's head in the early season but now face teams who are in full stride. Catching no one sleeping now is the problem and no easy games anymore.
I also think that room has tuned out Mr Guy.
It will be him or Price that wins that war. My money is on Price and Guy gets kicked to the curb after playoffs.
