Lecavalier rumors affecting the team's play?

Gord Miller mentioned it last night that ever since the rumors surfaced that the team has gone into the tank. Certain players who have had their names front and center in the rumors have played like crap (Plekanec and Gorges for instance).

Do you guys think this might have something to do with the way they've played over the last week or so?

not really...I don't think Plekanec has played well all season, except maybe for 2 or 3 games post x-mas

Gorges looks worn down, they're over-using him.

Players deal with rumors every year, if that's what's causing the mini meltdown right now, Gainey has even more serious issues to consider

It's just a low point in a season of ebb and flows...

Maybe somewhat. Nothing is black or white. How much does it affect them is the right question...

So if it is just a flippin' rumor why the flip doesn't Bob Wake Me Up Gainey come out and tell everyone that's exactly what it is ? I am sorry but he is just as much to blame for everything that goes within his team !

IMO, Price has had the biggest dropoff in play during the losing streak. He wasn't part of any of the Vinny rumours. Maybe he came back from his injury too soon? I'd look for tangible reasons for the losses, before looking at intangibles.

Plekanec has pretty much been playing like crap all season,so I doubt that's the case,it doesn't help but I doubt it.

I was about to post the exact same thing.

Besides, I don't remember Sergei's name being in the Lecavalier rumour.

I said it at the time...either the deal had to be made ASAP or Gainey had to come out in the media and just flat out say there was nothing going on in the Lecavalier story. Just last week, Boivin TWICE talked about Lecavalier to the media. The Habs let the monster stay alive more than anything.

Who knows if it distracted this team and affected them mentally, but the team started slumping at the EXACT same moment the rumors started on that Sunday night after the Washington game.

Luongo didn't play like very well either when he came back from his injury. It doesn't mean that he's a bad goalie. I don't think Carbo had a choice to play him because Halak played around 7-8 consecutive games during Price's absence, and it's pretty obvious that he never wanted to give the net to Denis.

If those rumors affect our little poor Habs, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Ever since Koivu has been back with the team it has tanked. Proof that he is a no-heart leadership-less non-French-speaking cancer!

Actually, ever since Price has been back with the team it has tanked. Proof that he's an overrated, talentless goalie who really ought to only be a backup!

Or maybe correlation != causality?

Strange that the Lecavalier rumor affected everybody but....Lecavalier.

If so, we're the softest team in and out....

I've seen Lecavalier today, he was on the 138 between Trois-Rivieres and Berthier going west so he should be in Montreal in about 35-40 minutes now.

It did affect him.

He's playing his best hockey of the season.

Come on! They're pro and they're suppose to compose with tractations. It's just excuses for losers.

I wouldn't be surprised that it would affect them... they are only human. Who here can honestly say that if there was talk in your work about your division being moved to another city, or some layoffs were in the works that it would not affect you? Some people who would work double time to try to be un-replacable while most people would slump a little and worry about their future. That is totally normal.

As for Gainey coming out to say its not true will not happen unless they are not true. He will not do like Lawton, essentially lie because if it came out, he'll lose his credibility for all the times when the rumours were really false.

first of all plekachu has been playing like a little girl the entire season

and if it is true than our players are probably some of the most mentally weak athletes in all of professional sports.

does that make sense? PROFESSIONAL sports.. this is their profession, their job. they understand what it entails.

look at jaybo, look at vinny? oh they are really struggling arent they?

its tiring to read thread after thread with people making all these excuses.
