Gomez or Drury would look great in a Flames jersey.

actually they would look better in any other jersey than a NYR one.

I really don't think Weight is going to return a whole lot more than a 2nd rounder and prospect at the deadline. So, yeah, the Flames could probably acquire him without taking a huge hit in terms of assets.

I'm sure Doug Weight could supplant Lombardi on the PK

We should have Backlund hopefully next year, If we trade for any thing it should be for a cheap UFA that would not take much to get.

It's also called our team is fine as is.

But of course, I realize I'm talking to Patrick, the man whose glass is eternally half-full and wouldn't be satisfied with the 76-77 Canadiens

Yeah, of course. This is an especially good point given that some many posters in this thread have bragged about Weight's PK'ing abilities and his defensive acumen.

Just because no one mentioned it does not make it completely invalid smart guy.

Lombardi is far too valuable a PKer to give up and take on Weight, who is a PK stalwart with his 7 minutes total PK time this year

Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not... but if Hank goes, so does Danny. That said, Calgary wouldn't want to give up what it takes for the Twins, nor do they need to. They have a solid core and are playing 'lights out' hockey right now.

until the time the flames are mentioned in the same sentence as san jose and detroit, i dont see how acquiring a top6 forward or top4 dman would hurt the flames.

And, that is why you don't trade for Weight to use him on the PK. You trade for him to get second line offensive support. If you need a PK'er, then you should keep Lombardi around as well.

On the other hand, having read the original post, I think your retort does make a bit more sense than I intiially though, so I apologize. I was thinking more along the lines of a 2nd rounder for Weight, and you were reacting to the OP wanting to trade a valuable PK guy for Weight. I agree that might not make sense for Calgary.

another prime reason new posters should not make proposals...

first... Lombardi is doing nothing offensively? Ask any Flames fan here I am not a person that is high on Lombardi at all... but he does have 8 points in his last 10 games... he is also on pace for slightly under 40 points despite missing a dozen or so games with injury... he is having a decent year for a guy who plays most games on the 3rd line...

second... even if Lombardi was struggling offensively he is not struggling defensively... Lombardi is a solid penalty killer and checking player for the Flames... his value goes well beyond point production

third... the Flames are sitting in the top 5 in the NHL for point percentage, goals for and penalty at the moment... what sense does it make to move a player from a top 5 pk to improve a top 5 offense?

fourth... if Lombardi is moved it would make much more sense for it to be for defensive zone help... a player who would help address the weakness of the team not further improve a strength

I am not saying I am against aquiring Weight because he would be a decent fit and would likely fit in pretty well with Cammalleri and Iginla... but Lombardi is an asset that is moved should be used to land a defenseman... perhaps Jordan Leopold

And doesnt Calgary have Primeau coming off the injury front soon?Hes a great high energy centerman you need for the playoffs....................still say that Calgary goes for a vetern defencman and possibly an upgrade at backup...........either that or start playing Mc more.

Don't know about Lombardi but kings are willing to part with Jarret Stoll for a 2nd round pick.

Stoll leads the kings with +7 and of course he's one of the best faceoff guys in the league. We all know how invaluable f/o can be come playoff time.

Stoll would be a very good pick up imo.

The Flames most need is a 2nd line center that can play on the 1st line. Stoll is probably a 3rd liner that can play on the 2nd line. We need someone a tad better than Stoll. Would like to have him though. I would love to get another former Oiler and see them perform better in a Flames jersey, like Glencross =).

Stoll would fit right in with the Flames though. I'm just not sure if he would be an upgrade over Conroy in terms of keeping up with Iginla & Cammalleri.

I can think of 3.6 million reasons to not consider Stoll

Having had both Conroy and Stoll, I'd definitely say Stoll's an upgrade. Not a huge upgrade but still an upgrade. Stoll can play the point on a pp, great faceoff guy and can rip it with the best of them.
