"Through The Fire and The Flames" - 1/30/09 - Nashville @ Calgary

As performed by Rhett Warrener's band, the Mike Keenan Experience:

@

Previous Meetings:
October 23, 2008 - Calgary 3 @ Nashville 2 - After going down 3-0, the Flames roared back on the wings of Jarome Iginla, who tallied three goals in the last 25 minutes while Miikka Kiprusoff made 35 saves to give Calgary the win.
November 11, 2008 - Calgary 7 vs. Nashville 6 - In a game of firewagon hockey (har har), the Flames jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 22:13, with Craig Conroy sinking a pair of goals. The Predators would rally back late and mmake a game out of it with a boost from Shea Weber (2 goals) but would fall just short.
January 3, 2009 - Calgary 3 @ Nashville 2 - The Predators blow yet another lead against Calgary, giving up 2 goals in the last 10 minutes to Daymond Langkow and Todd Bertuzzi (the latter with 24 seconds left) to lose their third game to Calgary this season.

Nashville Fun Fact: The Predators are damn good at holding a lead. Nashville are the only team that are undefeated when leading after one period... but they've only done that 11 times.

Nashville Player to Watch: Center Jason Arnott has 8 points (3g+5a) in his last 9 games. The 34-year-old centerman also has 5 points (3g+2a) in 3 contests against Calgary this season and 47 points (26g+21a) in 49 games lifetime against the Flames.

Nashville Reason to Worry:
JP Dumont continues to struggle offensively, producing just 2 goals and no assists in the last 6 games. If he can't get things going, the team will have a tough time sustaining offense for any extended stretch.

Nashville Injury Report

Calgary Fun Fact: The Flames, much like the Vancouver Canucks before them, have never swept the Predators in their history, and in fact lost 10 of the last 13 meetings between these two clubs before winning all three outings this season.

Calgary Player to Watch: Jarooooooome Iginla has five goals and 7 points in three games against Nashville.

Calgary Reason to Worry: While Calgary's offense has been cranking things up, they've needed every goal in their last five games. They've gone 3-2 in that stretch and gave up 4 goals to Phoenix, 6 goals to Colorado, and 4 goals to Columbus over the course of four days.

Great puck control by Legwand... and then Erat can't get jack on the shot.

Both of the penalties that lead to the 5 on 3 nail in the coffin were pretty bogus, but it likely wouldn't have mattered if 1. Legwand 2. Jones could have buried their chances at wide open nets a minute or two before.

nevermind, just saw the save kiprusoff made on Jones. Pete and Terry really didn't make a big enough deal about that one.

Bad game; not enough hard workers, too many wide open nets missed by those that did work. Bad passes. Stupid penalties. At least twice Calgary set picks that weren't called. Too...Many...Turnovers.

Maybe that "gutsy win" in Vancouver really wasn't that gutsy, maybe Van. was just that bad because I'm sure the team wouldn't have gotten big heads after a one game win streak and then gone to a division leading, deadly at home Calgary and decide to try to coast to a win.

Hey did anyone catch what Pete said about Glennon/Bliss? He was talking about not seeing someone/something and then he said something to the effect of "speaking of not seeing someone, has anyone seen John Glennon or Jessica Bliss around?". Like they weren't at the game or any games or haven't been to the games. That was all he said, never elaborated, just made the one comment and then kept going with the game. Was it a dig at the Tennessean or them? Did anyone else hear that? What was that about?

At this point the up and down nature of this team shouldn't surprise anyone.
