Ben Eager

Anybody miss this guy?

I know he'll never live down losing a fight to gary roberts (people act like he lost to julia roberts) but watching a lot of games this season i miss having someone that is a constant thorn in the opponents backside.

upshall brings it every night but there is only so much damage you can do at 190lbs. i like hartnell and asham but there are too many nights when they don't play with an edge. as for cote, let's face it the guys a wasted roster spot, too slow to forecheck and not worth keeping as an enforcer. hell, i'd rather have thor back.

when i watch 'hawks games you can see dmen going back to get the puck know when he is on the ice and he always finishes his checks. i am not saying he is the key to the cup (8 goals, 11 pts, and +4) but we miss that intensity on too many nights.

is there somene out there that offers that who the flyers can get on the cheap?

I wish we woulda have kept Thoresen, especially over Cote, Asham, Metro, etc. I liked what I saw from him.

another stevens special ther, he didnt like eager, so he was shipped out. much rather have him than asham and cote. they did a terribel job with his development. when they had the bad year they forced him into a role( enforcer) that he had no business being put into. he did ok but he has more to offer imo. he is a nice secodn option to fight and can play in the 3rd line or 2 for a short periods.

I agree I was a big fan of Eager. How much better would our 4th line be if it was Eager-Thor-Gratton? or even Eager-Thor-Asham. They could at least score a goal every now and again.

IMO the "most awesome" 4th line would have been

Cote/Gratton - Thor - Asham.

I know Thor didn't do much, but in hindsight, its not like Metro is doing that much more.

Thor was young and still developing. He would be a great 4th or 3rd line player for us. He took a shot in the nuts and came back the next game. come on. he didnt deserve a new contract? I woulda gave him the 1 way deal why not, hes good enough to be here.

eager - thor - asham/gratton

that would have been a pain in the arse to play against.

We still own Thor's contract though. So if he ever plays in the NHL again he would act as an RFA for us.

yeah, even with the hawks he moves up to other lines periodically.

i just think there are too many nights when we don't make the other teams pay a price.

thor wasn't a big but he atleast had the speed to get in on the forecheck and finished his checks when he got there. we don't have enough guys that do that every game let alone evry shift.

I understood the Brindy trade, he was an awesome 2nd line center and one of the hardest working players in the NHL... I liked the trade though because we got Keith Primeau out of the deal who gave us one of the best playoff runs in recent years (not including last year)

i'm sorry, but josh gratton is the same player that eager is--he doesn't take a night off and has the ability to forecheck. roll out gratton-metro-asham for the playoffs.
