Interesting info about our players "no trade clauses"

Roman Hamrlik, MTL - NTC [full NTC until 2/1/09; partial NTC from 2/1/09 to 2/1/11; no NTC from 2/1/11 after]
Alexei Kovalev, MTL - NTC [can't be traded to any Western Conference team prior to 1/31/09 without his consent]
Saku Koivu, MTL - NTC
Georges Laraque, MTL - NTC [limited; details pending]
Andrei Markov, MTL - NTC [limited; can only be traded to pre-specified teams]
Alex Tanguay, MTL - NTC

Taking a shot at kovy or Tanguay?

Either way, lame.

Interesting. So Kovy can now be traded to a Western Conference team. It's good to have some options and I'd much rather the Habs trade him to a Western Conference team where an inspired Kovy can't hurt us in the playoffs. Kovy has maintained that he loves playing in the city of Montreal but his recent play has been very uninspiring for the rest of the team.

These 'partial' no-trade clauses are a pretty smart idea. It provides a measure of reassurance to the player, but doesn't handcuff the team if things go sour.

Starting January 31st he can be traded but not to a Western team.

C'est l'inverse, buddy boy.
As of yesterday Kovy could be traded to any team. No Questions asked.

even if kovy was producing you can't win a cup when he is your main guy... i would ship him to the best offer from the west.

Why not keep him, but lets call Koivu and Markov our main guys. Can we win then?

Did not you hear? When patient's back is hurt, he must remain in a steady position with as little movement as possible.

no. i think the problem lies with Kovalev himself and the type of player he wants to be. He wants to be the go to guy but he has shown year after year that he is simply not able to carry a team on his shoulders due to his inconsistency and mood swings.

He's a great support player who wants to be the "man" of any team he plays on or he won't be happy.

The Habs' makeup right now is of a good solid team with lots of decent to good players but no elite player who can score or win a game on his own when the going gets tough. The ideal player to add to this situation would be someone like Gaborik or Lecavalier. Then with Koivu and Markov on top of it you have a really solid core to go with.

Kovalev is like a broken version of what we need basically.

Tanguay doesn't have a NTC anymore since he waived it to come to us.

If you call two out of 3 years "recent", then I agree with you.

The NTC is still in effect. He simply would have to agree to where he is being traded. The fact that he (verbally) waved it doesn't change the actually contract on paper.
