  • Can't believe scouts questioned his skating, he has above average speed and displays breakaway speed at times (long powerful strides)
  • Scores from all different areas/angles on the ice
  • Tremendous shot, soft hands
  • Announcers can't say enough good things about him
  • Really puts himself in a position to make something happen with the puck.. He gets open and into good shooting lanes when he doesn't have the puck

What a player... I feel less of a void in my life now that I've seen what he's capable of...

looks like we have something special...

The things that stood out the most was his awareness, his hands, and his ability to shoot from bad angles...

Hopefully he can do what he says and play like Malkin...

The YouTube user who posts those videos is only able to record the home games so I'm sure there's a ton of highlights from him that we're not even able to see... Like his 4 goal game....

I don't think Pierre Mcquire was exaggerating when he said he was the fastest skater for the Russian team. His acceleration in the first video is insane

you know, you can link youtube links with time marks embedded into them?

edit after watching: holy crap. the man is huge. the man can skate. the man has an uncanny nose for rebounds. the man can shoot. (wipes drools) how many goals did he score pretty much off the faceoff? dangerous.

Grachev is a very strong skater, and he is pretty quick in the corners too.

But whats obvious -- and especially, or only really, when he is used as a center -- is that he it would be tough for him to cut it in the NHL at that position because other centers would skate him to the ground. The 6'0 dynamos that are dominating the center position these days in the NHL.

Grachev don't have that agility where he can come back into his zone at full speed on the backcheck, then quickly turn and head the other way right away so to speak. And when you look around the league -- its basically only the extremely good centers with the same size as Gra who are able to cut it at that position. The Thornton and Malkins and co. The Gratton's and Arnotts are struggling mightly.

I am not ruleing out Grachevs future in the NHL at the center position completely. He could either adopt -- or been given the perfect linemates to cover for him, like with a Straka& Zherdev at either wing the center don't have to be very agile...

I really hope he pans out... we could really use some young top 6 forwards. God knows we have no cap room so we need to count on our system for the time being...

I like the one where he comes in on the goaltender--slides it between his legs--it goes off the post--but instead of letting his momentum take him away from the play when the puck rebounds off the post he's waiting by the side of the net to put it in.

I'm pretty sure he's been playing on Hodgson's left wing for most of the season. I could be wrong but I think he only played center in the very beginning of the season when the Battalion were horrible and then when Hodgson left early for WJ Canada camp. Oh, and he played center a couple games into the world juniors himself when Filatov felt uncomfortable there..
So, haha.. yeah, I'm just hoping they keep him at left wing!

I think Duschene is actually his center. Hodgson is with Dale & Peluso.

Recently I've seen Kang-Hodgson-Dale and Grachev-Duchene-Merrett. Peluso and Tanski have also slotted on the wings a bit.

Do you watch the games? If so, how?
I'd really like to watch the games in the latter half of the season, especially going into the playoffs- I just don't know if they're avaible to purchase in a package Ala NHL game center live.

You are a legend for finding and posting those minute marks!

Besides being stoked at how great Grachev looks, I was also extremely impressed by Matt Duschene.

I've ordered I think 7 Brampton games this season. They're $7 bucks on the OHL website.

This kid looks absolutely unreal. He seems like a complete forward. Great mix of size, speed, and skill. SOO excited about Grachev.
