Michigan Sports Thread

Seeing the Super Bowl Thread has gotten me off my duff a bit on an idea Fire Millen spawned: a thread dedicated to Michigan Sports. Just some place where if someone wants to talk about the Lions Super Bowl (draft day) or Spring Training or MSU basketball, this would be the place. The only requirement would be that it be related to a team in Michigan.

Another option is that we just put up a stickied thread whenever a major event happens (like the super bowl or any of the afrementioned events). I'm good with either way and was wondering what everyone's thoughts on this might be.

I don't know if it's because of the facial hair or what, but you all of a sudden have gotten a LOT hotter.

LOL. Spartans suck. So does Notre Dame and Ohio State. I'd rather die than go to those schools!

Pretty good weekend series between Michigan and Notre Dame...both one goal games and the road team winning. It was a great third period last night...Michigan almost came back from down 3-0 after 2 periods.

Yeah, and if the refs called the CCHA "kick-in" rule like they should ND would have had a goal less.

I more upset that they botched the potential tying when it looked like Pearce never covered the puck. I hate when the refs blow it dead when they lose sight of it but it isn't covered.

It still won't help them. They need new ownership and management, THEN they would be able to turn things around.

The Lions are painful. I don't even bother to watch them anymore.

Not too sure about new management. But Fords are just horrible at eveything at the moment, even running their own damn car company. SELL THE TEAM before asking for bailout money you idiots!

Illitch for buying Lions!

Why? the football team might suck but it's probably the only thing making Ford a bunch of cash. The revenue that's split among all of the teams, iirc, is enough to pay the players by itself.

I'm not a Lions fan but I'm hoping to see them start heading in the right direction this year and pick a offensive lineman. No QB or RB could survive behind that dreadful line.

I cant wait for the Lions draft. Even though i suspect Ford will force them to take a QB to help sell tickets. I hope they draft the Aaron Curry (LB) from Wake Forest. He may not be the sexy name but IMO will make the most impact.

Tigers and Verlander agree to a one year $3.65 million deal.

Good to see the Tigers avoid arbitration with this guy. He had a rough year last year but he has far too much talant to bottom out like that. Plus, it's been reported that he's made positive strides after a couple of visits with the new pitching coach.

I might be fairly alone in looking forward to the upcoming Tigers season but I think they can make things interesting (though not necessarily contend) if their starters bounce back a bit.

I am looking forward to this Tigers season. I bought a Cabrera away jersey last year and was hoping to wear it with pride to Detroit games... well that didn't quite happen.

what can we expect from the tigers? last season was a big disappointment and i lost track a bit. tough to follow the MLB overseas.
will there be any new players?

verlander has great tools i think. he will bounce back. he's too good to be bad.

They added Adam Everett (shortstop) and Matt Treanor (backup catcher)... both not really that exciting. The big addition has been reliever Brandon Lyons who will vie for the closer job. GM Dave Dombroski is looking to unload one of the numerous starters Detroit has for some more bullpen help. Also, the Tigers have a guy named Ryan Perry in the minors who will soon be the closer... he has absolute gas, not quite Zumaya gas, but waaayyyy better control.

Also, I forgot to say that the Tigers acquired catcher Gerald Laird to be the new starter. Should be an upgrade in that area.
