Well, after Poti went in the box, yeah.

Did he get beat once yesterday? yeah. But he took hits all day and make the right play with a guy in his face everytime he had the puck. He's not Tom Poti, but for a guy that's 22 he sure played well.

I would think the best 5 on 3 defense includes Poti, Schultz and Steckel. Schultz and Steckel being so tall with such reach and Poti a puck handler covers the bases. 5 on 3 pk doesn't involve a lot of chasing and skating, because the three end up packed down so close together.

I'll say it again, though, I am starting to expect that Quintin Laing may arrive when the rosters expand in March for some PK specility duty, if things don't get better. He is such and inspiration that he creates energy on the Pk and they need the shot blocking.

I'm mad that Laing never got called up during all the injuries. The guy did so much for the team last year. When Laing was up here, everybody was blocking shots and sacrificing their body.

Wouldn't Laing have to clear waivers? If rosters are expanded, i see no reason why another team wouldn't grab his as an FU to us.

Take a picture...trade value!

It seems like Schultzie, Mo, Juice and Erskine take turns being expendable.

The Caps are recalling Alzner and an addition to the D at the deadline away from being rock solid (if Theo comes to play).

Laing is surely a PK specialist and his hustle is admirable but I don't see it happening. I think he'd clear waivers on the way up but the forwards aren't the issue IMO. Sure, their overall skating ability could be better and they could be more aggressive (a coaching issue).

Overall structure and weak clearing attempts from the D have been the bigger issues lately. Laing, god love 'em, doesn't address those areas. He'd still probably help all things considered but there aren't enough spots up front to go around as it is. It's hard to see another body added to the mix unless that were to be thinned out somehow. Expanded rosters gives them more options but the cap will still remain very much an issue short of some salary getting cleared out.

Having seen that first goal again on replay a few times, I'm laying off Semin. He got back and tried on that play, he just couldn't get back over and cover the man after trying to cover the pass. At the game it looked like he just fell down, but the replay shows he was better than that.

The penalty though . . .

He made the correct play taking the second man - I'd lay more blame at Mo's feet. It's the PPG (penalty per game) that upsets me - especially with our god awful pk.

What? Oh hells no. It was 15% wings fans at best. Probably less than 10%.

I'm not good at estimating percentages... but they sure were loud however many of them there were in there. At least, they were loud in short bursts.

I think the Caps fans cheered louder for the clears at the end than during any of the goal celebrations.

10% is way too low. I was at the game (and a Detroit Fan) and it was closer to the 25% mark. Not as much as in the past, but still a very large turnout for an away game.

I'm a Wing's fan and was at the game. I just want to say the Caps fans are great hosts. In the past when the Wing's were in town, it seemed like the fans were a lot less friendly. But these past few years it seems the fan base has taken a turn for the better.

Here is my post from the Wing's forum:

Quote:
I was at the game on Saturday.

Even though it was a loss, i'd say it was a great game to be at. Tons of Wing's fans (as always at a Caps/Wings game) and the Caps fans were very respectful. Nobody going overboard.

One thing is for sure, the Caps/Verizon Center puts on one hell of a show. They get their fans in to the game very well. I've been to a lot of games at the Joe, and I can't remember any of them being like Saturday's game.

They do this "Unleash the Fury" video segment that is about 90 minutes long. You can feel the energy building up and the crowd is cheering like it is the Stanley Cup Finals. Then the whole stadium at the end erupts in "UNLEASH THE FURY". It gave me goosebumps. You can see a few videos of it from other games on youtube.

25% is a joke. In the entire lower bowl, there were maybe 4-500. It was better for the wings percentage wise in the middle bowl, maybe close to 25%. Upstairs it wasn't much.

In my section there were 6 out of 500. There is no way it was above one out of six people there.

In my section it was more than 50% (Section 226).

But who knows....It was an impressive turnout either way.

One of the smallest sections in the arena, and one of the few sections that the Caps cannot sell.

It wasn't impressive, it was the worst it's been for the Red Wings since the 80s. They've encroached on 30% before, yesterday was massively more Caps fans than the last time the Wings were here.

Ted Leonsis estimated it at 10%, but I think that was a little bit of Ted Leonsis spin. I would say probably more than 10%, but not more than 15%. I wouldn't argue with a wings fan that swore on a bible 18%, but there is no way in hell that more than 1 out of 6 people in that building were cheering for the wings.

Take into account that DET's are down 21 percent AFTER a cup win....likely the economy played a factor.

I wonder if PIT is going to have a much smaller turnout than last year...like what DET had?
