If he wants to sign here again, i see a 5 year deal at $30M. If he doesnt want to stay, he'll get offers at around 6.5 to 7M a year.
So do you think Bouwmeester will get the max then?

Words of wisdom. No bloody way they know anything about what he might be asking, heck they probably are not even meeting during the season.

Some of the numbers i'm reading/hearing regarding Komisarek's potential contract are ridiculous...I mean, MTL might have to overpay a little, but I don't see how Komisarek whether he's on the open market or not could get a salary above 4.5M

You'd have to be nuts to pay Komisarek much more than that

8.M a year for Bouwmeester isnt a stretch when you see a guy like Campbell making 7.5M.

So yeah, 6M a year for Komi is fine by me.

There was an interview right before last night's game with Komisarek and he basically said that negociations had not started yet and that it was Bob's policy (no negociations during the season) and he said his main concern was winning.

So I call BS on those numbers.

wow, an out of prime defencemen signed here. Congrats. BTW its 5.5 a year.

And we paid a guy 5.5 mil a year to bring no physical presence, no real offence (yes he will put up 25-max 30 points), but he does solidify the 3rd D man position. Is he actually worth 5.5? Dont make me laugh. But thats what being an FA is.

So for 1 mil more or less, you wouldnt want to sign a player in his prime who plays on our top pairing, plays physical everynight, and is a team leader.
Good thing you arent in the hockey buiness.

Exactly...there's no way Komisarek should make more than Markov, no way.

Komisarek can have security on a long term 6 year deal for 4.5M-5M and become captain of the Habs.

Anything more than that and I walk away if i'm Gainey...tough break, but that's the reality

Is there a giveaway, or defensive zone turnover, bonus in that contract? That would explain the big number.

Giving 6.5 to Komisarek would be worse then Jovo, redden and McCabe's contract.

A good defensive defencemen makes about 4M tops. McKee got 4M after a stellar season, but Volchenkov and Phillips signed for cheap and brings the same thing Komi does. Even at 5M it would be somewhat of a strecth.

Bouwmeester at 8M > Komi at 6.5 and Bouwmeester will make less then that so...

That "out of prime defenseman" has been our #2 overall, not Komisarek. Look past last two weeks, can you?

If he's asking too much come draft day, then Im sure we can sew up the 1st overall pick.(especially if the Isles have it)

Excellent point and I agree with single one of them.

However, since the cap rose and the market has changed a little bit since those other contracts have been signed, I would be willing to pay 5m for Komisarek, but not much more. If he's signed at 6-6.5m that would be an extremely bad contract, handicapping the rest of our team in my opinion.

Wow....some real doozies coming from CKAC these days.

I call BS on this one for a couple reasons:

-Comparable D's do not make anywhere's near 6.6 mil per year; as many others have said, he just doesn't have the numbers to justify that salary and I certainly hope that Komi doesn't believe that it worth close to what some of the Elite D-men of the NHL are making.
-The cap will likely be decreasing in the upcoming seasons, coupled with the uncertain economic landscape may cause open market players values to either even out or decrease slightly...or at least until one idiot gm wants to set a new precedent and offer a completely ludacrist offer.

If a guy like Komisarek can get 7M on the open market, as you suggested, then Bouwmeester should get in the 10M range. More than Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin... Everybody.

In this economic climate, and with the cap likely dropping in 2 years, nobody is going to pay that much money to either.

If he wants that much .. maybe a trade for Orpik or Hannan would be necessary.

I don't see Komi making more than 5M$. I can't see how he'd be able to come up with arguments saying he deserves that much. If fact, no defensive defenseman earns that much and it's not like Komi is the best one out there. Comparisons with Phillips (3.5), Mitchell (3.5M), Orpik (3.75), Commodore (3.75) sound fair to me.

If we're to spend 6.3M/year on Komi, might as well make it 7.5 and sign JayBo. We'll save 5.1M just by letting Dandy, Bouillon and Brisebois go.

Exactly. I've always liked Hannan too. We are still discussing about it and almost blame Komi for asking 6M when it's pretty obvious he doesnt.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Komisarek should be blamed (and I know you're not suggesting it), because as a UFA it is his right to demand a fair contract for himself as he deems necessary. If he wants 8m I have no problem with that as far as it isn't my team that picks up the cheque.
