I wonder if they are clearing a roster spot for the possible return of Rypien?

One can only hope.

(Obligatory joke about how the Canucks could really use him for that period and a half.)

Much more likely is Nycholat.

As much as it's just a depth deal and is inconsequential, I like this a lot. Gets Brown out of here, and they at least get something back for him. Claiming McIver on waivers would have been pointless, but this is a pretty decent move. Moves out a guy who sucks in exchange for getting back a guy who was their ~8th defenseman going into the season.

I'd like to see Jaffray back up so that Hordichuk doesn't have to be dressed for every game. Jaffray - Johnson - Hansen would actually be a pretty useful line.

A period and a half of Rypien would be fabulous, but is probably expecting too much.

Last night during the telecast, they showed a shot of Gillis up in the box, and he and Gilman appeared to be looking over some notes. At the time, I wondered if they were discussing a potential move.

Perhaps they were.

is O'Brien on the move now? I could see it, O'Brien is probably a better d-man overall, but McIver is just as tough.

Who is the next healthy scratch/5 mpg player that will become the whipping boy now? Cause those guys really need to be amazing hockey players, or Nucks fans aren't happy.

There's always a whipping boy in Vancouver. Hordichuk will take Browns spot!

They wanted McIver for the Moose...had they picked him off waivers they'd have to re-waive him to get him down there.

Good move. Glad Brown is finally gone.

I never thought I'd be this excited about acquiring someone as bad as McIver. But here I am.

So athe Grappler move on.

I like McIver. He's a character guy and I am pleased he's back. The Moose can use him and he's good insurance. Does this mean Nicholat is gone ?

Not if I'm reading the CBA correctly:

Quote:
13.22 When a Club claims a player on Regular, Re-Entry, or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently, in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being asked; provided that such player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative) and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such a successful claim.
So because the Canucks would have been the only team to put in a claim they could have sent him straight down to the Moose. They traded Mike Brown for him on the off chance that some other team would put in a claim for McIver so that they wouldn't be able to send him down without offering him to them first.

I like it. Gets Brown off the Canucks roster and gives Manitoba a very good AHL defensemen in McIver. And if the report of Jaffray being recalled is true, I like it even more. He was good in his NHL action this year and deserves to be up, IMO.

SOB is a much better D man and still has upside. Plus he is much bigger and much better fighter than McIver, who is game but loses most fights.
