Jussi Jokinen?

Jussi Jokinen has been placed on waivers (again)! I'm not sure he's the solution but I also don't think he's as bad as his stats show on Tampa. Horribly managed team.

He can fill in at center (52.2 FO%) or play wing. He only makes $1.875M and he's an RFA at the end of the year.

If he works out.. great.. we could re-sign him cheap. If not, we let him walk and it's not big deal.

Any takers?

Why are they putting him on waivers again? Is he playing that bad?

He showed great flashes his rookie year, he's just not getting it done this year. But I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him.

We had this discussion the first time he was waived. He's not good, and he's not a shootout specialist.

All this talk about making our team tougher and we want to add Jussi freaking Jokinen???

Adding him back then was sketchy.. but we are missing two NHL players for the considerable future (Lang, Lats) and only getting one back (Tanguay). With our injury troubles, he'd be good insurance. Maybe he'd also pick up his game a bit to impress his countries captain.

He's well above average in the faceoff circle and could slide into the #3 center spot (Lapierre would still have more ice-time as Jussi would just play on a scoring line at ES).

Higgins - Plekanec - Kovalev
Andrei - Koivu - D'Agostini
Pacioretty - Jokinen - Sergei
Begin - Lapierre - Kostopoulos

He's a (R)FA at the end of the season.. so he doesn't have to be resigned.. so it's not a big gamble. And if he plays decent enough, we may be able to nab him on a deal for $1M next year.

Whoa!

"Slide into the #3 spot"?? WHat the heck for? Our number three guy is doing just fine, thank you.

With Laraque and Dandenault coming back, we don't need any immediate depth support. I would maybe take him on RE-ENTRY waivers if he was available, but would make it clear to him that his role is BACKUP, meaning 5th line to start, and he might get a chance somewhere along the way.

Then again, is it worth bringing in a guy at his young age that would chafe at the lack of playing time???

Nah........I'll pass.

You can argue the call up situation all you want, I'd still take the chance on Jokinen. Especially since this is a player that showed quite some promise while in Dallas and is just playing poorly on a piss poor team (until recently).
Claiming him won't cost the team anything.

will know today at noon where he goes.281 game 161 points, maybe he lights it up on a new team . Maybe we get a " Ribeiro" back

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/feb...rts-lightning/

Jokinen, in the final year of a deal that pays him $1.875 million this season, is scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. If no team claims him before noon today, Lightning general manager Brian Lawton said Jokinen would be reassigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk.

"I'd like to see him get another opportunity," Lawton said. "We have a lot of players here, and it wasn't going to work out. It's the nature of the business. I like him as a guy, but this is a results-oriented business and the results weren't there for him.

161 in 281?
That's more than I figured he had. Seriously, pick him up.

Has he ever played with Captain (Courage) Koivu before? He might get motivated! Besides it's a cheap rental and you don't have to give up anything in return...

I was thinking along the same line.
But in all honesty, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT BOB IS GONNA DO, this includes the media. You just never know with BG, never.
The rumor mills is full throttle and the dead line is in 1 month. We need grit at the top 2 center lines, a top 4 d and it's obvious. Put that with all the depth and it's a marriage for the rumor mills.
Bob has been really shy thus far with the media so......

I would for sure take a chance on him. He is only 25 years old. If you look at his stats from his first two seasons they are pretty impressive.

81-17-38-55
82-14-34-48

Those are two really good years and only three and four years ago. Last year he even had 42 points in 72 games. So three out of his first four years he has been over half PPG. This year being the only exception. Tanguay, Latendresse and Lang are out right now and he can jump in one of their spots for the time being for free.

I say you claim him now and give him a month tryout til the deadline. If he does not work put him back on waivers and I am sure that some team will claim him then. If he doesn't work out just let him become a UFA at seasons end.

I'm hoping Wild would pick him. He would look good beside Koivu and Miettinen.

well lets see, he can't make it on a team like Tampa, so i really don't think we have a place for him.

he would fit in our team though, i mean he is a monster ! Height 5.11 -- Weight 183- no tanks !
