Oskar Osala

If the Caps were trying to trade him, what could they get for him?

Just for him, a pick or a bottom-6 forward. In a package he'd be a nice piece.

The question should be...why would the Caps be trying to trade him?

They trade him in a package deal...but by himself, his value is a pick or a depth NHL'er.

If Osala is traded, it will be in a package for a earth shaking, crease clearing, all-around defenseman... and that would mean Pronger!

otherwise, I think he's off limits should GMGM make any upgrades in the team... he's not going to sacrifice the future for a rental part for this season or even next...

Osala would be on the table if the team were able to acquire a quality top-pairing defenseman for the playoffs. Barring including Osala in a package for a stud, though, they wouldn't trade him. He's big, he's a winner, he's scoring goals and tearing up the AHL right now as a rookie.

Short version? His value to his team is high.

Why would they try to trade him? - It'd be teams inquiring about him.

Caps don't need bottom 6 depth nor 3rd pairing dmen.

And why trade him for a pick, he could play a role in the top 6 as a grinder doing the dirty work or play in the bottom 6 as soon as next year. He's also something the caps lack in their system, a hard-nosed winger.

Doubtful they trade Osala.

They might move Fehr first.

last season. Sergei Fedorov for Teddy Ruth.

Osala would seem to be more valuable than Ruth and more of a sure thing NHL to be player. So...I am sure McPhee could get someone of real value for Osala by himself. That said, I agree that trading him would most likely be part of a two or three part package for Pronger or Kaberle.

They should hang on to Osala and in a couple of years he will be a solid all around hard working guy who can score goals in their 3rd line & PK.

Oh man, I never even thought of Pronger to the Caps. How can it be done? That would be awesome!

The Caps don't want him that much. Other teams will give you better.

Osala is one of my favorite prospects

- Size like 6'4 and 220-230lbs when he fills out along with good skating.
- Hands should pot 30 this year as 20-21 year old AHL rookie
- Throws hits, likes Coles game and wants to be like him

There is no way the Caps move him unless it's part of a package for an impact player.

The thought of rolling out an Ovechkin followed by Osala is terrifying, in playoffs tire defensemen out getting crushed.

read here:
http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=602297

the short version:
something like this...
Morrisonn
Schultz or Lepsito (depending on Anaheim's request)
a good prospect (some would give Carlson, Finley, or Osala to get Pronger, I wouldn't)
possibly a secondary forward prospect...
the caps 2009 1st round pick

all that, straight up for pronger...

morrisonn and Schultz/Lepisto + trading Nylander would about equal Pronger 6.25 mil contract for this season and next...

granted, it's speculation and only would happen if he's on the table after the Ducks are out of the playoff hunt...
