Did another defenseman get hurt? Reitz played well enough that i'd like to see him back in the lineup tomorrow.

I'm guessing that it's just that Kalinen is officially out so they want Potter there in case someone else gets the flu/goes down in practice, etc.

Yeah it's about time they fully employ the whole extra dman thing. Hopefully Reitz stays in the lineup...maybe they'll scratch Redden for Potter?

Reitz will be sent down to Hartford because he didn't score in his first game.

Mara sat out of practice today with the flu, so that's probably it.

naw. we need more dmen. its the new renney "system". put a dman on every line, so they can be even more conservative and get to a shootout so we have a chance to win.

well, maybe not but ya never know.....

According to the Lohud blog, Kalinin is not making the trip to Dallas.

Are you people actually serious in any way, shape, or form when you say stuff like this? Do you seriously think that it might possibly happen, or that it'd even be a good idea?

Even though he's overpaid as all hell, Redden is still a better player than Potter, and there's no way he's ever going to be scratched in favor of Potter

I'd def like to see Reitz play again as I though he was solid his first game. Plenty of hits, had a fight, and handle the puck pretty good (though I know he doesn't have great hands).

No, he'll just be scratched because he "Wears down" according to Tommy Tards.

Redden hasn't done anything to warrant being benched other than having a huge contract that he couldn't realistically live up to. Redden>Potter.

In Potter's brief appearance so far, he's made more happen offensively than Redden usually does in a month.

And aside from a couple of rookie jitter-type moves, he was pretty solid in his own end.

I'm not suggesting he doesn't need more time in the A, but Redden doesn't do anything well. He doesn't do anything horrible. He does just enough not to be booed. If he was just a little bit worse, he'd be the new Malik. He is the most average player on the team. He's average at everything.

Valiquette said Potter is as good if not more solid then Girardi was at this stage and he will a regular in 09-10

While I can't argue with numbers, Redden is always up there in leading the team in minutes, and maybe one of the reasons you feel that he is average is because he just quietly goes about playing solid defense. I know he's made his fair share of defensive zone blunders but he usually makes a decent first pass(that never leads to an assist since we don't score any goals) and I rarely see him turn it over. That's huge in itself considering how bad some guys we've had were about turnovers in our own zone. It doesn't by any means warrant a huge contract, in fact it's kind of pathetic that we're talking about how he doesn't screw up too bad. But Potter's got a ways to go before he's better than Redden. Maybe he showed upside but that doesn't mean anything other than maybe he'll be here or somewhere as an NHLer in the future.

As much as I respect Valiquette's word, it's a little biased dontcha think? I'd rather listen to someone who's going to be a little more objective than a teammate.
