Obviously, we all knew this. But I thought this was an interesting quote from Peter the Great himself...

"I considered returning to the Avalanche, but they are struggling (losing six of their past seven) and I didn't want to take any space under the salary cap. I didn't want to return to the Flyers after all my foot problems the last time I was there."
haha...so he wasn't even going to come here anyways. Apparently his inner circle of friends don't like us.

Holmgren quoted through Tim P.:

Quote:

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren confirmed to CSNPhilly.com that Forsberg will remain in Sweden and attempt to compete at the World Championships in April. If that goes well, the creative center will re-evaluate whether he can come back to play in the NHL next fall.

“I talked to [agent] Don Baizley a few days ago and I knew about it,” Holmgren said.
“It’s good for Peter. He needs to find out. This is a good way to find out – decent competition. If he plays in the World Championships with Sweden and plays well, then he comes back next year with somebody, assuming he is healthy.”

This would mean Forsberg would become part of this summer’s free agency shark frenzy in July. The Flyers are still interested in signing him, even for next season.

“That’s a long ways off though,” Holmgren cautioned.

Holmgren added that the club is tying to keep an “open dialogue” with a lot of teams to see who is available. Center Danny Briere will remain sidelined at least another three weeks while recovering from groin and abdominal surgery.

As for Forsberg, he said, “time ran out” for competing the NHL this year.

We have a story that just came up on denverpost.com, written by a Swedish journalist we hired, detailing Peter Forsbergís first game of any kind since Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals for the Avalanche against Detroit.

It didnít go so well. As reporter Anders Ronmark wrote in his story, quoting Forsberg: ďThis wasnít fun at all. I have to go home and evaluate this. I donít want to go into details, but it didnít feel as good as I hoped it would.Ē

Forsbergís troubled right foot, operated on again late last year by Swedish orthopedist Bertil Romanus, appears as troubled as ever.

Look, the man is a perfectionist, and his **** will probably never feel good again. He is 35 years old...his body has been through some battles and its probably going to hurt. He either needs to hang it up or play through it like every other veteran out there.
