look at the Hossa trade last year as a base for what we would have to send their way for St.Louis.

one or two players, a prospect and a first round pick.

id much rather have lecavalier. his contract is VERY cap friendly considering his level of production.

he wants to go to montreal. and they want him to play there i believe.and they have good young players to send back. he would make them very tough with kovy.

i would not part with marc staal for vinnie. sorry. staalzie wil anchor our blue line for years. although vinnie is a talent, hes in his prime now and staal is just a baby.

with vinnie, i just see him ending up with the habs.

Teams would die for a #1 dman like we will have with Staal for the next 10+ years hopefully.
I disagree. Lecavalier is one of the top 5 centers in the NHL. Staal is a good defense man with a bunch of potential but he isn't one of the top 5 defense man in the game or close to it just yet. Trading Staal + Gomez for Lecavalier, a center who can put up 50 goals and 100 points, is definitely worth it.

We'd still have Girardi, Roszival, Mara, Redden, Kalinin, Del Zotto, Potter, Sanguinetti, etc; We have a deep talent pool for defense. Del Zotto, Potter, and Sanguinetti in another two years will all be ready to play in the NHL (hopefully). Potter is ready right now and he's a solid defense man. I expect big things from Del Zotto. Sanguinetti can turn out into a quarter back defense man on the PP. If we had to give up Staal for one of the best talents in the world it would definitely be worth it. Had we not had such a deep defensive core I wouldn't consider it but we do.

I'm so sick of all these "source-free" rumors perpetuated by shut-ins with too much time on their hands who's sole purpose is to generate income through hits to their website.

The Rangers would have to mortgage so much of their future to get LeCav, it makes it pretty pointless to even bother.

Hahah, poor Eklund. Trying to compete with the Col/Cal and Dallas trade rumors.

It's not so much the timing of the deal that bothers me, it's the long-term impact of doing so. It really comes down to Staal being such a large part of our future on the back-end. If I thought we had the means to fill his role on the blue-line, it might make the deal more feasible.

I'd also prefer to move Gomez over Drury, but if that was the difference between getting a deal done, I'd be less partisan. I think Drury, despite the criticism, provides more than Gomez.
While I agree that Staal is a rare breed, players like Vinny arent exactly growing on trees either. This is what this team desperatly lacks.

Let me see, what if the deal were to be like this.

Lecavalier + Mezjaros for Gomez/Drury, Dawes, Staal, Anisimov, Sanguenetti 1st, 2nd?

Just something to that extent where Mezjaros came back the other way? Seems like a HELLA fair deal to me, where both team legitimately wins. Rangers get what they need, and while they loose Staal, gain Mezjaros who ive always been a HUGE fan of...

For a player like Vinny, it would start and end with Staal, bottom line.

lmao if they want Staal forget it. Staal is gonna be a top line blueliner for the next decade.

Trade someone else. Do something like Gomez, 1st rounder, another 2nd or 3rd rounder, Dawes, Sanguetti or Del Zotto, and another player or prospect and we get back Vinny and another player like Artuykin or Recchi
