What a weird deal, since the two teams play so far apart from each other....
Here is your reason:
Called the Snowbird Ticket Exchange Plan, the program is the brainchild of Nets CEO Brett Yormark and his twin brother, Panthers COO Michael Yormark. According to a press release distributed by the Nets yesterday, this is the first such program between two major professional sports teams.
This seriously makes no sense to me. At least in my opinion, NHL & NBA fans seem to be the most opposite out of any of the four pro sports. I'm pretty sure there aren't many fans out there in the world that follow the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Nets of all teams.
The guys are brothers. A lot of snowbirds in the Broward area, and a lot of residents were NY area transplants. I'm sure there will be some people who make use of this program. As long as you get them in the buidling, they'll spend money. Concessions, Pantherland, etc. It's smart, for both clubs.
